This 5-minute standing upper-body session is great for your spine and back, with some added benefits for your lower body too.
Side Bench Stretch
- Stand tall with feet hip-width apart and place right hand on right hip.
- Lift left hand overhead and lean to the right, feeling a stretch all alongside the left side of your body.
- Resist bouncing, rather just hold the stretch still and exhale to go deeper. Try to leave directly to the side, do not lean forward or back. Hold for 30 seconds.
- Repeat on the other side.
- Perform 2-3 sets
Cross Body Toe Touch
- Stand with your feet wider than hip-width apart and arms held out to your sides.
- Swing right arm down and tap left toes.
- Return to starting position and repeat on the other side.
- Continue to alternate and do 30 reps on each side
Lunge With Spinal Twist
- Start standing with your feet together.
- Take a big step forward with your left foot, so that you are in a staggered stance.
- Bend your left knee and drop into a lunge, keeping your right leg straight behind you with your toes on the ground, so you feel a stretch at the front of your right thigh.
- Place your right hand on the floor and twist your upper body to the left as you extend your left arm toward the ceiling.
- Hold for 30 seconds to 2 minutes.
- Repeat on the other side.
- Perform 2-3 reps
