Weird symptoms?

Does anyone experience bloating and sore-throat-like symptoms complemented by hot flushes? This has been going on for a week. I feel like I have tender ovaries, nausea and a bad taste in my mouth. I have just had the flu jab one week ago so unsure if it’s related! What are some weird symptoms you’re experiencing?

I’m still having regular periods more regular actually than since I started!! I’m 49. I have been having similar symptoms to you, definitely ovaries but also more boob pain than I’ve ever had before.

    • Brigitte5 years ago

My periods have become more regular since peri too. And more painful...excruciating cramps.

  • Michelle5 years ago

Bless you it’s not funny is it so many symptoms and they’re bizarre too. I get a feeling of sore throat sometimes but also croaky throat too. Achey ovaries, palpitations, anxiety and feelings of fear for no reason which has been quite intense as I’ve gone more into peri. The list seems to be endless and it’s hard to ignore isn’t it. We can and will get through this though just be strong Kate. Take good care ?

    • Kate5 years ago

Thanks Michelle. Sorry you are experiencing these symptoms too but it helps to know we are not alone. I agree the anxiety feelings can be quite overwhelming. Take care x

    • Pazley5 years ago

Michelle, I’m so glad you mentioned the achy ovaries because I had been so worried thinking what that could be. I’m 51 and had a partial hysterectomy when I was 42. I still have my ovaries but I never once thought I would experience achy ovaries, but here I am, it occurs for a few days every 2-3 months apart or more. The hot flashes are awful and the anxiety went into overdrive when I had never been an anxious person before. So, lots of 1st time experiences for me. Much love and good health to all.

  • Cora5 years ago

Hi yes I feel all that too and plus the hot flashes make my face sooo red and soo hot. And then I get the chills.. is this normal?

    • Kate5 years ago

I also experience that. Go from hot then instantly cold. It’s like my internal thermostat doesn’t know what it wants!! I just think whatever the body does is the new “normal”! Hugs ?

    • Chele5 years ago

I get these too , I always feel like I need a shower?

  • Carrie5 years ago

It’s all been a bit of a surprise. I had no idea that the menopause would result in so many unusual side effects. These have included painful joints in my hands, a sore hip, a burning sensation in my mouth, a massive rise in anxiety, dizziness and brain fog. I think I’ve forgotten what it’s like to feel normal. Having my job to focus on has actually been a godsend.

    • Katherine5 years ago

You have just described my symptoms, last period age 48 now age 52, these are new symptoms occurring last five months,, Lots daily self care is really helpful , healthy foods and supplements. I now have empty nest,,, so I have decided to turn all my caring mothering attention towards myself and husband,, let’s love ourselves again and enjoy the little life had to offer.

    • Carriereplying to Katherine5 years ago

I’ve just turned 47 and my daughter 13. She has started her periods and mine have come to an end. Trying to focus on my daughter but trying to be kind to myself also. It’s a bit of a roller coaster but it’s comforting to know that I’m not alone with these symptoms. I had thought I was going mad.

    • Katherinereplying to Carrie5 years ago

It can certainly feel like your going mad , but completely normal,, once I understood, I could relax and use tools to help myself feel better and more comfortable. I started with diet , mindfulness, and two books I’ve been reading to educate myself, to have a healthy mindset and plan of action with difficult symptoms,, currently reading “ The seven transforming gifts of menopause “by Cheryl Johns and “Manage your menopause Naturally “ by Marion Stewart Enjoy every minute with your daughter, best of luck Carrie God bless ?

It’s not a weird symptom but I have had a constant headache nothing helps

    • Kate5 years ago

Have you tried some Lavender balm on the temples and at the nape of the neck. It might not take the headache away but it might lessen it slightly x

    • Angeline5 years ago

Hi Deanna, I am 53 and have recently developed very painful migraines due to my menopause, painkillers were not helping but my husband discovered the migraine cap and I pop it in my freezer and it definitely helps, if you are putting it in the freezer allow it to thaw a little or it can give you a bit of brain freeze! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Headache-Migraine-Relief-Cap-comfortable/dp/B07DG2Z1NH/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?crid=OV11GE52CIJV&dchild=1&keywords=migraine+cap&qid=1610636348&sprefix=Migraine%2Caps%2C190&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFSR0lPTVNQNEpCMUQmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA1MTg5NjkyT0FQV1pSV05GUUQzJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA4NDk1MTQxM0FXMDZBM1VEWlRBJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

I get such severe bloating I actually look pregnant!

    • Lisa5 years ago

      Me too. It’s awful

    • Charisse5 years ago

So glad to hear I’m not the only with this horrible symptom. I stay bloated and it’s causing me to stress out, thereby causing my cortisol hormone to run rampant and creating more fat around my midsection. Nothing is helping to ease the bloating other than exercise, but I’m too fatigued to exercise.

Anxiety and panic attacks! Plus pin needle stabbing pain around my breast tissue especially above the breast and left ovary shooting pain. All this leads to my high anxiety I still stay hopeful- I know it will pass❤️

    • Kate5 years ago

We will get through it. Also, I think being able to share our feelings and symptoms help ❤️

  • Bunny5 years ago

Hello all. I don’t know if it’s symptoms anymore or just my mind going crazy. I get the dizziness like I’m going to fall over or my head is swaying to one side. Then I get migraines on and off. But I have to ask does anyone get or feel the migraine in their ear? I just want this to pass. I just turned 49 so I don’t know what’s more to come. I’m glad I have this site to come and talk about it. Xoxo

    • Jen5 years ago

Oh my goodness! I have had a an intermittent but persistent headache and my ear feels like it has fluid in it for the past 3-4 days. Zero motivation. I’m not sick, vital are all good. I’m 7 days out from my period. I was wondering if it was peri menopause or weather fluctuations. Thank you for mentioning this!

    • Julia x5 years ago

Dizziness can be caused by the reduction in the amount of oestrogen you are producing. If you’re not already, perhaps think of hrt to rebalance.

  • Ellie5 years ago

My bottom lip is burning. Not sore to touch but really uncomfortable. Bloating, nausea, headaches the list goes on.

  • Melissa5 years ago

At times I feel like I’m going crazy or I’ll drive my husband to go crazy! The anxiety can be life altering .. at times, panic attacks thinking I’m having a heart attack. Also, dizziness, brain fog, sore joints and muscles and constant exhaustion after 7pm. I hope to feel normal again one day!

    • Paula5 years ago

I get this a lot and I also get sharp pains in the tops of my arms and in my chest which makes me panic even more.

    • Lindareplying to Paula5 years ago

I get this too. I get a feeling of a adrenaline rush or uneasy feeling in my stomach and then get pains in my arms and go hot. Sometimes they both just ache. All seemed to start when I became peri menopausal. Lots of doctor and hospital visits as I thought it was my heart. The panic is awful but now I try to breath through it and pretend it’s not there and it doesn’t seem to last as long. The fear of it happening is awful but I have found that this makes everything worse. There seems to be some many symptoms of peri menopause!

    • Karenreplying to Linda5 years ago

Thank you so much for sharing. This is exactly how I’m feeling and the same symptoms. I’m on HRT and thought it would help which it has but still getting weird symptoms, high heart rate, shooting pain in breast and massive anxiety and fatigue x

    • Alireplying to Linda5 years ago

Hi Linda. I feel exactly the same as you. I didn’t seem to be or feel peri until I had the shock of my mother passing from a heart attack at age 74 when I was 46 and I started to get all these panic attacks and pains and stuff and felt like I was going to die like my mum blaming it on my heart. I have managed to calm down a bit but still get al these weird and wonderful pains aches and tingles and try to calm my anxieties about it with breathing but it’s hard isn’t it? I feel like I’m going mad sometimes but I’m sure we will all get there in the end ?

    • Debbiereplying to Linda5 years ago

That is exactly how I would describe what I’m going through. So glad to hear I’m not alone, thought I was going mad and keep feeling like I’ve got something seriously wrong with me. Had a hysterectomy 10 years ago and I’m not on HRT. Breathing helps ??

    • Robinreplying to Paula5 years ago

I get pains in my arms and legs and armpits and sometimes the side of my breast. I was terrified that they were blood clot and if I get them at night I can almost feel them slowly moving like the pain will start in my leg and then it will move up into an arm. But my doctor says it’s just me laying on a nerve or something it’s making me very nervous.

    • Susan4 years ago

I have been having anxiety and panic attacks now too and it’s scary and frustrating as well. I’m also overly emotional at times and find myself tearing up often when I’m not someone who even cries a lot. Today even watching the tv and seeing the runners cross the finish line at the NYC marathon made me tear up - empathy overload! When will this stabilize - I’m still in peri-menopause at 52.

  • Carric5 years ago

Who knew I would have all these weird symptoms going through menopause. I had a hysterectomy years ago so haven’t had a period in years. But then had super bad hot flashes every minute of the day. Super bad night sweats where I have to change my clothes. Went on natural hormones from my Natural Path doc. Been on them for almost two years. But now have such a stuffy nose from the hormones I can’t breath, I quit taking them two weeks ago- the hot flashes are back with a vengeance!! Night sweats, achy joints, burning mouth syndrome, hips hurt and pop every time I walk now, tired, insomnia, my list goes on. Take hormones or not take them- some days I feel like I am crazy. I thank God for this forum!! So I know I am not crazy! All the symptoms are normal- ugh how long will they all last? Years? I will be crazy by the time this is over hahah!!

    • Kesia5 years ago

I hate to hear that yo lu are going through this!! You will make it through this!!! I have some of these symptoms as well, tired to taking this and that but the two things that are making a big difference is deep breathing when I feel a severe symptom (and every night at bedtime) and I cut out sugar. (No white potatoes, white rice or white bread, along with added sugars, and sweets) Godspeed!!!

    • Kierareplying to Kesia5 years ago

I also cut out sugar/ white flour and alcohol and it seems to have helped. I had ovary pain most months on one side and it’s gone since I quit the sugar! I also eat lots of veg/grains and beans, but I’ve always done that.

  • JAnelle5 years ago

I’m 42 and I too am feeling the start of symptoms. Blah. What doesn’t help is this time of the pandemic. I’m trying to be positive and look to my kids as my strength and prayers. I’m glad to be reading that I’m not the only one either with weird symptoms. The throat thing for me feels like burning but it doesnt hurt to swallow or drink. It’s just the sensation.

  • Jenn5 years ago

The anxiety and then panic is present for reasons I can’t understand. I used to be a pretty level headed person but now I find myself anxious in grocery lines, at night laying in bed and anywhere in between. Ugh!! I don’t want to do any pills or hormone therapy so I’m trying to make some lifestyle changes. Vitamins, supplements, diet, exercise and calmness. The heart palpitations scare me and then exacerbates the panic. It’s awful. Glad to hear everyone’s stories it makes me feel better.

    • MelJ5 years ago

I’ve been having this too Jenn, from what I gather it’s very common, I started on antidepressants about 3 months ago as it all got a bit too much and I have to say they’ve made me feel a lot better, plus reading (seven transforming gifts of menopause) has helped to understand wtf is going on!! I use the Calm app too which is good. Please remember You aren’t alone, it’s hell sometimes BUT we WILL get through it I’m sure, hang in there lovely and know that it will get better x

    • Daphne5 years ago

I feel the same. I am in chronic pain. Under my arms, back shoulders , thigh joint. Palpitations. Anxiety. No motivation. Weird pressure in my left side of me nose., like sinus pressure. Blood pressure fluctuation. Bit depressed too. Insomnia. I haven’t slept since yesterday. I see GP in Teo weeks. I want my mirena out. I eat well. I don’t smoke or drink but that doesn’t even seem to matter.

  • Sharon5 years ago

Hi, I’ve experienced the throat feeling also tingly face and a fullness in my left ear, was diagnosed with Eustachian tube distinction but I knew it wasn’t that my headaches were so bad I was sent for a brain scan that came back normal... I read up on various sites about menopause and discovered that lack of estrogen can affect the inner ear causing this. Anyone else experienced this??

  • Nanny5 years ago

I regularly experience increased belching with a feeling of a lump in my throat, sometimes with sore throat and nausea. Plus my voice gets hoarse now and then.

    • Lou5 years ago

That sounds like indigestion - I recently had something similar! Mine was brought on by protracted stress and now that I’ve dealt with the source, I’m happy to say that the symptoms have disappeared.

    • Fifi5 years ago

Hi Nanny, belching is the only way to describe it! I rarely burped before. It started a few years ago and lasted for at least three year. Whenever I ate, whatever I ate, I belched. It was horrible and lasted quite a while after food. I don’t seem to have it so bad now. It tends to happen if I have a late meal or a heavy meal. I had no idea this was related to menopause until now x

  • Lisa5 years ago

Yes. I keep thinking something is wrong with me and now with COVID I feel I’ve got! It’s something to adapt too but not easy

  • Lori5 years ago

    Anyone experiencing burning feet?

  • Liz5 years ago

    Bloating... I look pregnant!!!

  • Lee5 years ago

Menopause is definitely a bizarre change that is hard to describe because the symptoms are not constant. I go from panic attacks to high anxiety over things that didn’t used to bother me. I have become highly scared of heights where before they were not an issue. Driving has become difficult at times with slight dizziness and hot flashes that come on suddenly. I used to love driving, now I’m apprehensive on the road and avoid driving if I can. Thank you for all who are sharing on this site, very comforting to know I’m not alone.

  • Veronica5 years ago

Hi ladies - I’ve had so many crazy symptoms with peri menopause as my blood tests confirmed. My last period was day 17 from the previous cycle which lately range between 23-31 days. It was a full blown period with cramps and backache too. My sister has also experienced periods every couple of weeks as did my mother during menopause. I’m 49. I hoped it was normal as I was following my mom and sisters pattern. Today my gyno recommended a pelvic ultrasound and biopsy. She said the irregularities are likely due to hormonal changes but she wants to be sure. Now I’m scared to death. Anyone have close cycles like me?

    • Sioban5 years ago

I’m nearly 49. I used to be a regular 28 days, but over last few years it has all slowly deteriorated! Last one was 17 days (had a few of those) average 21-25 days, rare 34 days ....and they now last on and off for 7-9 days , so barely feels like any time off!

  • Nikki5 years ago

I’m reading everyone’s responses and feeling so relieved. I’m 43 and had a hysterectomy in August. I still have my left ovary, but I’m definitely experiencing so many of these things and more. I was hoping surgery would help me feel better, and instead I just have so many weird sensations and symptoms. I feel so unlike myself.

    • Michele5 years ago

I’m in the hysterectomy and left with one ovary group, too. Mine was in Dec 2019. Welcome :) I too have experienced the weirdness. Including the heightened anxiety, fear and panic attacks (definitely not something I was familiar with. Well not at this level!). Vision changes, brain fog (feels like I’m not present/in the moment), hypo and hyperglycemia episodes, pain in my right ovary every now and then, hot flashes but I don’t sweat. It feels like a hot sensation inside my head and then I feel like I’m going to pass out. When the chills come, I realize the episode is coming to an end. When do these symptoms ease up?? I’m 49, by the way.

  • Jo5 years ago

I’ve a Mirena coil so it’s hard to tell but I just feel it’s something new every week!! I can definitely say awful taste in mouth is one of mine but my biggest thing at the moment is recurrent BV!! It’s getting me down! I smell different and I know it’s a bit graphic but used to enjoy oral sex with my husband but haven’t done that in ages through fear of being a bit of an odd odour down there! I have migraines too but have always suffered so am pretty used to them! I am always looking for reading material as I need to know what I can do to help myself! My GP just said take anti-depressants which do help but I feel is not the answer! Help! X

    • Daphne5 years ago

Yes! I have the Mirena coil too.Likevyou, it always something new every week.I’m having them remove the coil in a couple of weeks just too see if my symptoms change and my pressure goes down.

  • Jo5 years ago

Just found this forum - THANKYOU. Although now eased a little I had a few months where my arms were so itchy I scratched them until they bled, went to GP who looked blankly when I suggested menopausal symptoms. In 53 on HRT for night sweats, brain fog and all the usual - I’m sure it helps but no matter what cream or antihistamine I used the itch was unbearable - any ideas I want to be prepared in case it returns

    • Jo5 years ago

I had extreme itching on my shins to the point it left unsightly red blotching that didn’t go . My dr didn't know after getting me to try anti fungal cream and to take antihistamine. He sent me to a dermatologist who prescribed me a steroid cream and said it was possible eczema that can come about because of menopause. I am now itch free

  • Kiera5 years ago

I get a sore throat about once a month and I also think it’s hormone related, but I didn’t know if it was common. I usually take a zinc lozenge just in case it’s a virus. At this point I think everything is hormone related!

    • Kelly5 years ago

I have been experiencing a light aura and dizziness and then bizarrely got a sore throat immediately following. Relieved to hear the sore throat may be related!

    • Tana4 years ago

Yes I was getting a sore throat every month, thought I was coming down with the flu or Covid every time. So when this happened I would take flu meds. Needless to say I believe it’s hormonal, haven’t had the feeling in like 2 months now. I am 46 and I’m in peri menopause, thanks for sharing as I thought I was getting sick every time. This has been quite a journey for me so far.

I’ve got horrendous greasy hair .been like this for eight years and really gets me down.have tried everything but nothing works .does anyone else have this ?

I get severe hives around the time I’m supposed to have my period. I also would get hives when I had my period.... I mean plate size hives. Doctors have yet to figure out the whole hive situation but I believe it is a histamine issue. Does anyone know anything about or have any experience with hives-hormones and histamine?

  • Elle5 years ago

Hello! My name is Elle. I’m new here, so forgive me if I post anything out of the ordinary! Or something I shouldn’t! I apologize ahead of time! But I was curious... I am 45yrs old, and went through menopause at 38! Pretty young I know, but I’m pretty sure that has to do with me beating cervical cancer in my early 30’s! Not sure, but I’m guessing! So, this is my issue... I met someone about 7mos ago and our sex life is very active! But... I’m having an issue with dryness! Though my libido is there, I’m finding it hard to orgasm! Is there any solutions to my problem??! Please forgive my question if it’s to extreme! Thank you for all your help

    • Faith5 years ago

I used to love sex but it’s just not as fun anymore. I’m also very dry and nothing seems to get me as excited and wet as before. I use a good lube. My suggestion is find one you like and use it on the regular! I feel like being wet helped me to orgasm. Best wishes!

    • Karen5 years ago

Elle, I just read on endocrineweb.com "Products such as Revaree, Good Clean Love , and Ah Yes! are made without fragrance and tend to be closer to the consistency of natural vaginal secretions". I hope this is helpful. I understand the reduction of estrogen is to blame for changes in elasticity and dryness. I haven't tried these products yet myself. Good luck!

  • Beta5 years ago

Yes. I think it’s from dehydration. When you have a fever it’s important to drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. It’s the same with hot flashes. You are sweating, losing water. The bloating anc sore throat is a signal that you need to drink more water ?

  • Rosie5 years ago

I get palpitations, panic attacks, the feeling of fear comes over me and I have to distract myself. I recently started getting a really bad stuffy nose which I have to use a nasal spray for, I’ve also developed tinnitus and headache, I had really bad indigestion but I now take prescribed medication for it. I get stabbing pains in my breast, the list goes on ? I have good days and bad days!!!

    • June4 years ago

I can relate to all your symptoms. It makes me feel a little relieved that we all have very similar symptoms.

  • Von5 years ago

I’ve really enjoyed reading these posts, so glad I’m actually normal for my age lol. I’m now 50 but I reckon I’ve been peri menopausal for 8 years. Still as regular as clock work, been fighting with weight gain for 5 years and nothing seems to work for me. Feel so stiff and achy in a morning, it’s like my body has turned into an 80 year old body and I hobble down the stairs most mornings. For me the worst symptom I had was crying. I’d cry if someone on a TV show had just bought a house. A sad advert. Weddings, birthdays, dropping my son off at uni etc…I spoke to the doctor she suggested I went on anti depressants for low mood. The easiest way to describe it is I didn’t have enough “Happy hormones” I have been stable since taking the tablets it’s obviously not for ever. I don’t feel like I'm making a fool out of myself any more. Can anyone else relate to this?

  • Reagan5 years ago

Yes! Bloating, dizziness, cysts, weight gain, and hot flashes, sometimes during the day and sometimes night. Also, brittle nails, though I don’t know the cause of that one.

  • Lisa4 years ago

Weird is the word of the day . I guess I’m a late bloomer because I’m still getting my period. All through the whole beginning year of 2021. Now September got nothing. I’m chewing my nails this month because I just don’t know anymore. Please don’t come? Ok come on already? Just go away, why are you here? Ok I’m so tired of you. Seriously I sound like I’m in a relationship with my period now, lol ??. But let me give you the real kicker, I’m 55 yrs old, And my Gyn Dr. Said “ this is Normal”??

  • Sue4 years ago

My weird symptom is I get the feeling of getting a cold but don’t actually get the cold. It happens every 4-6 weeks I guess. I also get massive internal heating. Like a hot flush but it lasts half a day. It always make me feel like I’m coming down with something. Sorry for everything everyone is going through but nice to know I’m not alone.

  • KarenMFlynn4 years ago

Since I’ve been going through peri menopause I have noticed difficulties in word retrievals, mood swings and food doesn’t taste as delicious as is once was. It’s kind of blah, bland, not strong of tastes.
