Weird periods?

Does anyone else have weird periods? I’m having irregular periods and most of the time they’re so heavy and painful. I’ve noticed the actual blood is different too.– Mel, Cumbria UK

Me too. Some are short and some are long. Sometimes I get a heavy period for a day and then nothing for three days and then it’s heavy again. Is this normal? How are yours?

    • MelJ6 years ago

Exactly the same Clancy, my periods are approximately every 44-60 days at the moment, I always get pmt, sometimes the flow is lighter and sometimes it’s like I’ve turned on a tap, when they’re like this I feel washed out and so tired. I’ve spoken to my g.p and I’m being referred to Gynaecology just to make sure things are ok (plus I have an ovarian cyst and had abnormal cells on my cervix). On the bad days I wish I could have a full hysterectomy, on the good days I hope this isn’t going to last for too much longer. From the advice and the articles written on the subject it’s all pretty normal, I’d go and speak to your g.p anyway, just to be on the safe side.

  • Mrs P6 years ago

Yes! I was always clockwork but since the start of the year they have been all over the place. Really heavy and lasting so much longer than a normal period (one lasted for 40+ days. Was really heavy and painful. Not much fun.

  • Caroline6 years ago

Hi, yes I do they started getting closer together but now are further apart, my last was 80 days in between, they are really heavy for first couple of days then light, this has been going on for about 6 years now so hopefully I am near the end

  • Nicky P6 years ago

I’m having the same issues ? The colour is much darker and thicker Sadly they seem to also lasts much longer than before I started this journey Last year I had some loss for 14 weeks it proper got me down Felt dirty and lost confidence Didn’t see anything else for some months later though which was a relief I’m sure we’re not alone in this?

  • Michelle6 years ago

Hi Mel I think a lot of people say about irregular periods. I definitely had them and they eventually became very close together sometimes every two to three weeks and then a few months apart, also more painful. As for the bleeding again that varied so much too sometimes really heavy fresh blood and sometimes it didn't even look like blood. I’ve not had a proper period now for 7 months just a tiny bit of loss. Hope this helps you a little.

    • MelJ6 years ago

It does help, Thankyou Michelle, makes me feel less anxious about it all.

    • Mel5 years ago

This sounds like me! I used to be regular as clockwork every month and then it started changing...sometimes they come every 3 weeks or less and sometimes there are 100 or more days in between!! Mine don’t last too long (about 2-3 heavy days and then a few days of hardly anything) but they are very painful for the first 2 days :( I’m looking forward to a complete stop!!!

    • KSK4 years ago

This sounds like me, too. I’ve been having such heavy periods and the time between them is irregular- how long did this go before you came to a long stretch of time without a period? 1 year or more?

  • Africa6 years ago

I have been bleeding from June 24th and it’s still on going. Very frustrating and taken away from my daily routine.

    • Jen6 years ago

That happened to me in January and went on for 35 days. I’m sorry you have to experience it right now. If it happens to me again I’m going to consider an ablation or a hysterectomy. All that bleeding left me anemic and exhausted and it’s too intrusive into the rest of my life.

    • Jacs4 years ago

I’m the same I’ve been bleeding since 5th June, so painful and brings your mood down. Couldn’t get norethisterone due to a supply issue so tried provera for 10 days, stopped the flow for the first 5 days, even had a mirena coil fitted on 29th June following a hysteroscopy! Still bleeding

  • Irene6 years ago

It is normal to have irregular periods during perimenopause. However, if your periods are longer than 8 days-not spotting—bleeding, AND OR bleeding occurring less than 21 days from your last bleed...you need to see your GYN!! You could have fibroids OR endometrial hyperplasia.

    • Trish the Dish3 years ago

Thank you for addressing the flow. Researching perimenopause or menopause, u always read about missing a period but not so much about an extra monthly period or going from normal flow to heavy flow. I just got my period earlier than I should have, and on the first day of it, I woke up to significant bleeding which doesn’t happen for me normally. I’ve had perimenopausal symptoms for years (low sex drive, dryness, insomnia, night sweats, brain fog and fatigue.) but I’m only 42 and think this is to early. I have had 7 kids though so maybe I’m getting it early as my biological age maybe be closer to 50.

  • Theresa6 years ago

April to July no bleed just the slightly icky cramps and PMT. Then mid July 13 days long period. Then 9 days after that one faded away cramps day before, cramps similar to teenage periods on the day the dam busted it’s banks. Painful cramps which needed painkillers/hot water bottle then gush of blood plus clots for 5/6 days. Only now starting to fade to light stains of dark red brown. I just wish it was over.

    • MelJ6 years ago

Me too Theresa, it really gets you down dosen’t it? Having this app and reading everyone’s experiences has really helped, I don’t feel quite as alone, crazy or scared as I once did x

  • Moira6 years ago

I was the same very regular periods then about a year ago started becoming very irregular. Then a few months ago my period became extremely heavy and was bleeding for 20 days. Light at first but then a pint over 2 days. The doctor put me on Norethisterone tablets which are brilliant. They stop your period within a couple of days. Once the tablets kicked in she switched me to Desogestrel mini pill which also stops your periods. So far I havent had a period for 3 months. This info might be helpful to other women who are going through the same misery I went through. Also, Norethisterone tablets are used by women who want to stop their periods on holiday. You take them a few days before your period is due to start so that it stops the period from starting. I wish I had known about them years ago, holidays would would have been so much more enjoyable.

    • JoBP6 years ago

Hi, just remember the mini pill is stopping period because it’s actually making your body “think “ that you are pregnant, so checking your weight often is very good idea. I was on that contraceptive for 7 years, enjoining not having periods at all, but I put on something close to 4 stones at that time, thinking it was thyroid fault.

    • Moirareplying to JoBP6 years ago

Oh heck, I hope not. I have noticed a weight gain but out it down to Covid lockdown and snacking more.

    • Sunshine5 years ago

My doctor had me on that medication for three months back in 2019 and it affected my blood pressure (made it higher) and haven’t been able to get it down since. :(

    • Sharon4 years ago

I think I’m in pre menopause as my periods use to be regular as clock work and now I never know when my period will start, sometimes I can go 23 /40 days before my next period, I am taking norethisterone today as going on holiday and hopefully will stop my period for my holiday Did you have any side effects etc

  • Irene6 years ago

As far as the look of the blood, sometimes old blood can mix with fresher blood, making it darker. It’s normal. Sometimes the old blood can be really dark and Scary looking, but at this stage, it’s ok. Also Cramps can start when you didn’t have them before. Especially after missing periods. Take ibuprofen or naproxen because they help block the prostaglandin that causes the cramps. If your crampS don’t improve after taking over the counter strength or have other symptoms that worry you...see your GYN.

    • Theresa6 years ago

      Thank you Irene.

    • Vicky5 years ago

      Ibuprofen also reduces the flow!!

  • Melissa6 years ago

Yes. Weird for sure, Mel. A little over a year ago my lifetime of very regular, predictable mild periods stopped abruptly. Nothing for 6 months. Then 3 months of normal periods again, painless. Then 2 months no periods. Then hit and miss periods ever since that are heavier but not overwhelming, are dark red, and have some clots accompanied with symptoms of bloating, enlarged swollen breasts and cramps. Usually lasting for 8-10 days. The flow varies intermittently from heavy to light to spotty throughout the 8-10 days. I found that using a cup rather than tampons really helps with the cramps. Pads feel too messy for me personally. I can never predict when a red tide is going to hit now, so I keep protection with me in my bag and glove compartment and wear a light panty liner most days...just in case.

    • Krista6 years ago

I wish I could use those cups. They seem like a great option, but have not yet worked for me ?

    • Jamiereplying to Krista2 years ago

Krista I could never get the cups to work either. I have found success with a menstrual disc, though. There are disposable ones but I really like the Nixit.

    • MelJ6 years ago

Thank you Melissa, I’ve just bought a cup so I’ll give it a go!

    • Leareplying to MelJ5 years ago

I absolutely love the cups but some cycles when you feel a little more swollen then normal, they tend to be a little uncomfortable and not seal as well. But most cycles I have they work great.

    • Danie6 years ago

I also find a cup helps to ease cramps, I don’t trust it 100% so wear liners to catch any leakages on heavier days as I’m a yoga teacher. On lighter days I can almost forget I have my period. Mine are becoming irregular so I insert my cup a day or 2 before my due day to avoid surprises while I’m Teaching. It doesn’t create dryness like a tampon would. I also use reusable pads which are so much softer, more comfortable and don’t add to any irritation that this phase in life seems to create. Hope that helps, give the cup a go, it takes practice and trust x

    • Lea5 years ago

Yes, I’m starting to have swollen breasts too, which is not common for me on my cycle.

  • Cathbob6 years ago

It’s such a relief to hear that I’m not alone with unusual periods. I seem to be getting 2 in a row and the first one can be quite very different to the second which comes after a 2 or 3 day break. The first might be fairly light and brownish, the second painful, heavy with fresh blood. They seem to last anything from 7 days to 3 weeks. I do have 2 fairly large fibroids which must contribute.

  • Georgina6 years ago

I have regular periods still which have always been heavy but since I hit my 50s they became heavier and in the new year got heavier still, with huge clots & lasting as long as 10 days, leaving me utterly drained. I spoke to my GP 4 months ago who has put me on the progesterone only pill which has helped make things more manageable.

  • Jen6 years ago

My periods are also irregular, quite heavy and longer than I used to experience and occasionally painful with cramps. I’ve had ultrasounds with normal findings and a therapeutic D&C to help my period lighten up. It seemed to work but only for about 6 months. More and more cycles are upwards of 40 days but recently my cycles are 22-27 days. It’s annoying and also difficult to work when my period is so uncomfortable and heavy. I’m 47 now and I first remember this being a problem around 45.

  • Danyele6 years ago

I’m so glad you asked this. Mine are weird too. Seem to be about 35+ days in between each other and last about 10 days-lots of blood, clots, etc.. So annoying.... I kinda feel like I’m going through puberty again-trying to understand my body, scared to wear light colored pants/skirts, etc.

  • Sally6 years ago

Yes Mel! Same here. I’ve had hardly nothing albeit irregular the last three months then bang! Straight out of the blue I get the most heavy flooding period that has been just awful. I tried the coil but I never stopped bleeding so I’m just thinking about seeing GP again as if this is how it’s gonna be I can’t cope with it. Feel absolutely drained of energy too

    • MelJ6 years ago

Hi Sally, my periods have always been painful but pretty regular, I tried the coil too and didn’t get on with it, my g.p prescribed Tranexamic acid but that hasn’t worked either ??‍♀️

    • Vickyreplying to MelJ5 years ago

I take Tranexamic Acid with Ibuprofen! I take up to 5 Tranexamic tablets at b’fast, lunch, dinner and two Ibuprofen every 6 hours - all of this for the first 48 hrs. If I didn’t I would be off work.

  • Krista6 years ago

Last year I was getting a period every other week & some days were brutally heavy. This year I’ve had one regular, none for almost 3 months, then one that was so heavy on first day I went thru 16 ultra heavy tampons on a 10 hour work shift! The next few days were manageable. Now I don’t know for sure when next one is coming. My body is “indicating” with cramps & moods & spotting that it might be coming. But ??‍♀️ It’s very hard to manage my days when unknown.

  • Lisa6 years ago

Yes! It’s so strange. No longer do I have the “normal” cycle. I have 2/3 months in between and they can last up to 3wks? It’s very draining?

  • Ruth6 years ago

Yes. Have been on mini pill for years and had none. Been on HRT for a year (sanity saver) Just recently have had 4 in about 7 weeks. I’ll see a doctor if things continue just to check all is ok but had a scan last year and all was fine at that point.

  • Janey6 years ago

I suffered really heavy periods for about 2 years - in that time I had a period for more time than I didn’t. If you have really heavy periods insist on a test for anaemia as well as the other tests for more serious issues. Anaemia causes fatigue

  • Abby6 years ago

I’ve read all your comments and this has reassured me that I’m normal. It’s not something I can talk to people about . So thanks . Mine are irregular and last for ages . I was worried but now I know it’s ok .

  • kay6 years ago

yes i will be 47 in december my periods are every 26 days for the past maybe 9 months this current one came at 30 days but they’ve been much more intense and now come with bad headaches the duration of my period (7-8 days)i also get nauseous almost after every meal no matter how light ugh like someone mentioned earlier i also feel like i’m learning my body all over again can anyone recommend supplements to ease all this weirdness

  • Jenn5 years ago

I have been having periods that are 17 days apart for a couple of months. Normally, my periods are every 27 days like clockwork and last 7-8 days (one of those days it stops and then comes back). Now it’s every 17 days and lasts around the same amount of time. I am 46 and new to irregular periods. Going to the doctor today because I am nervous about cancer or other issues it could be. Does anyone else have this? Is it normal?

    • Iona5 years ago

This sounds like me Jenn. I’m bleeding heavily for about 9 days and then again on day 15/16. I’m scared too. I feel so anxious and dizzy and just not myself. It’s hard to function.

  • Tam5 years ago

I am 52 and still having a period like I’m 30 still. I am over it. I have my period for 5 to 7 days. Very heavy the first two days. I had fibroids 5 years ago so I went back to Dr thinking they may had come back, but they have not... Maybe about 4 months ago it skipped one month but back in full force. I am so tired of having my period. I started when I was 11. A Dr.told me sometimes the earlier you start your period the longer you have it!!!!

  • Lea5 years ago

Yes, I had a 4 day period 2 weeks early and it started dark, then extremely heavy then gone. I also was very swollen inside which made it hard to wear a cup without leaking and it was painful ?

  • Sherri5 years ago

Yes. I almost feel like a preteen trying to navigate my period again, having a hard time keeping it contained. I didn’t bleed for 41 days. I used to be so regular. I thought this is it, Aunt Flo is finally gone. No. Started thin, heavy and painful.

  • Tiffany's5 years ago

  • Karen5 years ago

I have 2 periods a month and have for years now. They are identical to what my periods were before premenopause. I use “MyDays” app to keep track of it all. Typically last 5-7 days. I have about 14 days a month without a period. We joke in the house that I have maybe 2 days being myself because I Pms and post-ms. I’m only 45 and started this when I was 40-41 maybe. Does anyone else experience this?

    • Kiara5 years ago

Yep, something similar. I’m generally getting a period every 24 days and have done for the last 18 months plus. They vary from very heavy/clotty and I feel wiped out and dizzy for days before and at the start to ones where it’s maybe 25/26 days and I’m PMT‘ing like a witch for a week beforehand ???! I’ve started today on day 19 and I’m dizzy and knackered! I’m only 38 and have four kids aged 9, 7, 5 and 3, I don’t think there’s ever a stage in life where being an emotional yo-yo is fun but I’m worried my kids will look back on their childhood wondering who this unhinged woman playing their mum was ??. My mum and granny both went through peri and the menopause young so I’m assuming given lots of changes I’ve been tracking since around age 35 that this is where I’m headed but it doesn’t help that any medical professional I mention it to thinks I’m too young and tells me to come back when my periods fully stop..cheers for the support doc! (It saddens me to say it but it’s generally male doctors too, there just is no training is there, plus no lived experience I guess). Sorry for waffling on but just wanted to say I get you with the two periods a month thing, it’s a real pain!!

    • Iona5 years ago

This has just suddenly started happening to me. I was regular and then since September I’ve been bleeding really heavily with huge clots and flooding for about 9 days and then I get another period on around day 15/16. It’s exhausting and I’m getting what I assume is PMT leading up to a period with constant panic attacks and huge anxiety. Does this sound familiar to anyone. I hope it stops soon because I’m frightened and really not coping.

  • SM5 years ago

My last period was one day with heavy bleeding and big clots. I had a migraine for five days. I still don’t feel right and it’s been a week. The migraine was the worst I’ve had in a long time. Mine last a few days and when my hormones settle down, it goes away.

  • Natascha5 years ago

My periods have also changed in peri-menopause but are much lighter than previously. The blood is almost watery it’s so thin. I’ve also been finding them less predictable - a 40 day then 47 day cycle and then back to normal. I too wish I could use a cup - I used them comfortably before childbirth but haven’t been able to since. If anyone knows a brand that might stay in place I’d be willing to try again. (Tip to anyone new to the cup - it took me a couple of cycles of practice to get used to them but it is worth persevering.)

  • Sammy5 years ago

I’m really worried as I haven’t had a period for 3years . I’ve had 2 fulls and hurt my stomach since then I’ve been bleeding for week then stoped and started bleeding again

  • Az5 years ago

Am currently enjoying (not) my 20th day of what are normalish, regular periods. From spotting to flooding, to lots of clots! No Pain or discomfort though. Silver lining?!

  • Sarah5 years ago

Mine seem to be more frequent, gone from 26 days regular as clockwork for nearly 40yrs to 22-23days I would say shorter.. slow start then very heavy with clots sometimes for a few days. When it first becomes really heavy my shins ache terribly & I have to take ibuprofen or sit with my legs up at least! It all started changed a couple of Christmas’s back walking around some Christmas lights I experienced dreadful flooding consequently I try not to leave home & now sleep on when when it’s really heavy every month ?

  • Az5 years ago

Throughly enjoying day 26 of my period...... what the heck is going on?! Always always regular, always 5 days, always heavy, but this is just full on. And the clots, oh my goodness, some are ridiculous in size. Is this normal?

    • Jo3 years ago

I’m in a similar position, always been relatively regular but currently on day 26 ??‍♀️ How are you now if you don’t mind me asking..? TIA

  • Kflsantora4 years ago

Mine are fairly regular maybe a day or 2 prior or after. Any where from 20-30 apart. One would think since I got it to begin with at 10 by 53 it would have left by now.

  • Shantih4 years ago

This month I had my first weird period and that is how I ended up finding this app. I have not been good about tracking my period as my husband had a vasectomy almost 20 years ago. This month I know I was late but not sure how late. I finally started today but it hasn’t been “normal”. Lighter than normal and dark.

  • Snapdragon4 years ago

Mine were the same, periods get closer and closer together & heavier & heavier. Plus migraines - See your doctor and ask about help to smoothe transition. There are things docs can do - but ask to see a GP with menopause interest or specialism - most of them have no clue.

  • Sil4 years ago

Yes sometimes I hardly get anything and other times the bathroom looks like a crime scene. Also, my symptoms are weird. Sometimes I don’t cramp at all and sometimes they’re so bad.

  • Dawna4 years ago

Looking back, at first my fairly regular period (always with in a day or two) started to get less regular. If it was longer between periods, the flow was heavier. My last several have been further and further apart. Last one was two months between. And, flow is super light and very dark.

  • Laurac4 years ago

My period has changed in last 6 months or so, and finding more irregular and heavier, far more painful than the past. I used to be clockwork too, but the mood swings and changes as mentioned above have me thinking periomenopause. Have appt with gyno to follow up, these changes aren’t fun!

  • Amanda4 years ago

I’m glad you asked this question. I have 3 children ages 21,18,& 9. About 2 years before I got pregnant with the last one I started having irregular cycles. It was very hard to get pregnant when you didn’t know when and if you were going to start. I always did and they lasted 5 days and cramped badly. After having her I was put on nuvaring. I was regular again and not cramping, at least not bad, for a few years. Three years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer and could not have anything with hormones. They put me on tamoxifen to “kill” the hormones. My periods still came pretty regular but they were thick, heavy, and hurt. I haven’t had one since the beginning of January now but I have been having terrible migraines. I guess I know what my body is doing but then again I don’t.

  • Toni4 years ago

Yes, my periods are the equivalent of some sort of massacre. It’s ridiculous. I have to wear a super plus tampon plus an overnight pad that must be changed like clockwork every 2 hours or there is going to be a problem.

  • Kat4 years ago

I was a late bloomer, I didn’t start my period until I was 16 and my cycle was short (23-25 days) and light (4days). I rarely had cramps, but when I entered perimenopause my cycles and flow were different, and I started to experience a little cramping. When I was 46, my period started changing. The cycle would be longer and the flow was sometimes heavier, and it lasted longer, and I often spotted for a week! I’d have a long cycle (35-70 days) with heavy flow followed by two short cycles (10-16 days) then a long one again. This lasted for two years. I think I’m ending perimenopause because my cycles are starting to spread way out. It’s been over 3 months now. I just wish I knew if / when it was coming because I kind of feel like a kid not knowing when it will show up and I won’t be prepared.

  • Marlene4 years ago

Has anyone restarted a mini period (spotting, maybe light flow) after finishing a period? I finish my period, then after 3 days or so of no bleeding, I start to spot. Usually see it when wiping. Is this normal?

  • Melly4 years ago

They definitely turned weird and super heavy. When two came in one month, I asked my doctor for a hormonal iud. They didn’t go away entirely as I’d hoped, but are way more manageable.

  • Awilda4 years ago

My periods are much darker or deeper in color. My cramps are more intense a week before my period starts. But last month is when I got my period since Dec/Jan. I was on hiatus for a couple of months. Lol. Then surprise! I just wish it wouldn’t mess with us like this. Anxiety and sadness is through the roof. Remember S.O.D.A. This is an acronym for Seratonin, Oxytocin, Dopamine, and Adrenaline. Read up on what each neurotransmitter/ hormone booster does, and find the tools to achieve this daily. I’m hoping this will help me get through some if not all menopause symptoms!! Good luck!

  • Shell4 years ago

I was usually regular but this month has been different I’ve had 3 periods within a month one was 10 days apart then had a horrible bleed then 14 days later another bleed . I was also used to my periods lasting maybe 2 /3 days max and now they last 5 to 7 . I think I started this process prior to going through ivf at 36 had 2 rounds then put a lot of my sunstone afterwards to having a small child and working shift work but once I stopped working shifts I know something still wasn’t right .

  • Filly4 years ago

Due to recently having a total hysterectomy I no longer have periods and so glad, before the operation my period where hit and miss but would be heavy for one day and stop, drove me made

  • Lynda4 years ago

I was never very good at tracking my periods and so never new how regular they were, they came and then a few weeks later I’d forget how many weeks had been. A few years ago I definitely notice them getting shorter (duration say 3-5days) but the bleed would be much heavier. In the last year it’s been much easier to track as I’ve only had 3, my last one was on the 25th Jan 2022. I just started HRT though and from what I’ve read that could create a bleed again after the first month on it, wondering if anyone has any experience of this.

  • Sharron4 years ago

Yes mine were always very regular then became increasingly heavy and lasting longer. Was scared to go anywhere due to flooding. Then they started to spread out after about 6 months. Then very irregular, currently it’s been 8 months since my last one. Fingers crossed this is it, periods or hot flashes not both!

  • Terri4 years ago

I don’t have any more periods but when I was young my period was painful cramps. But when I had my children I stop having cramps and my period were heavy very heavy. My last period was heavy and cramps were painful and then it ended oh did I mention the vomiting? Yes sometimes your period is weird.

  • Moxie4 years ago

My weird period story is that I always had heavy, very crampy periods, until I had my first child at age 43. When my period finally returned 11 months after the birth, it was a lot shorter and easier, no pain at all! My friend who also had her child in her 40s, had the opposite experience, however, so your mileage may vary.

  • lulu4 years ago

i have irregular periods- they cone so randomly and more infrequently over time. i get one semi-heavy day, the next day is light, then it basically spots for the next week… which is the annoying part. its like a leaky faucet! whereas before, i only got my “ladytime” (as my fiancée calls it) for 2-3days and done.

  • Lia4 years ago

I used to be regular as clock work but now my cycles are shorter and lighter. Honestly would prefer a heavier period if I could rely on it being regular than this. Tis not meant to be apparently.

  • Taia4 years ago

I’ve always for the most part had a normal cycle, up until my pregnancies, because of my medical issues and about 2 years ago,my late 40’s was when I started being more irregular.

  • Vera3 years ago

It has been years since I had a period. Reading all the testimonies brought back memories of my weird periods.

  • Kay3 years ago

Yes. I didn’t have a cycle for 7 months, then suddenly I had three cycles every other week within 5 consecutive weeks. Saw a gyn and taking some tests just to make sure it isn’t anything else, and just part of the change….

  • Nekesha3 years ago

I was prior to having my hysterectomy. It was terrible. They were super heavy and painful, but I had fibroids as well. I would wear an ultra tampon and a pad to ensure I would avoid accidents. As time passed I started to bleed between regular cycles. It was extremely light, but who wants to bleed for 3 weeks a month?!?!?! Also the pain subsided, but nausea took over. The heaviness did lighten up slightly once I changed to natural feminine products. I suggested that for other ladies in my life and they noticed positive changes after switching to natural products as well.

  • Tanya3 years ago

    Yes!! All the above!!!

  • Faz3 years ago

I think I need to try a cup & reusable pad.

  • Ari3 years ago

About two years ago they began to be more irregular than usual. They have never been too heavy, though. Now they’re just very far apart; right now I’m like at 130 days since my last period.

  • Jackie3 years ago

I was heavy and I had really bad cramps, they are now all out of sync . I haven’t had one since November last year.

I have irregular periods for 3 years now. Sometimes it comes after 14 days, sometimes after 80. Short and long periods alternate. Long Periods come with a long flow, spotting for 10 day or more. In the last year the periods were longer. Feels like they want to stop fully.

I had an ablation done in July of 2016 and I believe that is what started the process of me going though menopause. I am thankful I haven’t had a period since because mine was what I call me turning into a person who couldn’t function due to the pain and amount of blood I passed. It was gross and horrific! I am 45 now and have twins that are 10 and it takes all my energy to keep up with them. The amount of bloating, fatigue, restless nights, mind wandering off to lala land.

I am currently 40 days late. But three months ago I had one week on and one week off my period…three times in a row. It’s all messed up! Lol

I had a period on 4th December 2022 and then nothing until 6th July 2023. Less than a month later in early August and then nothing again until two weeks ago (December 2023). All of these periods were heavier for longer than my normal and came with extra hormone imbalances like breast pain that lasts for weeks afterwards and being much more emotional. The times when I didn’t have periods felt much calmer than recent years so maybe’s (hopefully) things are coming to an end. I turn 48 tomorrow (been in perimenopause around 7 years).

Hi i am 46 and since the last couple of years my period has become a bit irregular, the interval has become shorter most of the time, 21-23 days, occasionally up to 5 weeks especially if I have been traveling. but the last one is very strange. It was only spotting for 4-5 days, no real period flow, is this normal? Should go to see a gynecologist?

I had a hysterectomy at 24. So I haven’t had periods. Figuring out the stage of menopause has been hard due to this.

I started getting super heavy periods, like so bad I couldn’t leave the house or be far from a bathroom for the first 2 days. They would come every 28 days and last 8 to 10 days. Then about two years ago it just started coming every 2 months not heavy then come back in 20 days and be like a waterfall. That’s cycle lasted about 2 years. Now my last period was last Christmas Eve so I’m 8 months with no period at all. Most of my worse symptoms kicked in since then

Yes to all of this. 41 and diagnosed perimenopause. Period changes really happening for the past 8-10 months. Inconsistent cycles as long as 45 days. Lots more spotting and one day of extremely heavy bleeding. Not enjoying it.

Mine are very light and only last a couple days. But the mood swings and cramps leading up to it can last for WEEKS.

I’ve had PCOS for many years, so weird is my normal. But in the past year or so, my periods have become more regular as I move through perimenopause. So now normal is weird!

Yes!! Similar to others I’ve read, mine became infrequent, very long, and now seem to have stopped. All within 4 months.

I had ablation years ago due to passing huge clots.
