Testosterone

Testosterone contributes to libido, sexual arousal and orgasm by increasing dopamine levels in the central nervous system. A low dose of testosterone can sometimes be beneficial at improving your energy, mood, concentration and also sex drive (or libido), although it does not help everyone. It can be taken in addition to any other HRT you’re taking if you’re experiencing issues with libido, energy levels, and mood. Testosterone is usually given as a cream or gel, which you rub into your skin.

Clumps of hair would fall off ever time I washed my hair. I have bald spots. I was on testosterone shots. I was on the lowest mg.

My internist guided me first to cream and NEVER to shots. Shots are typically the method for men because they require such higher amounts. I liked the control that I had with the cream (it was applied daily). What did your doctor say about the hair loss? I've gone through hair changes as well, but in the last year I got shingles and attributed my hair problems to that.

My question is: where on your body do you put your testosterone gel? Side effects can be slight increase in hair growth.

I was on this at the beginning but in a patch form before they took it if the market and this with the gel was amazing

I had a partial hysterectomy before I was 40 (the surgeon left me with one ovary and my cervix). I went into full menopause 5 years ago, and a hormone test suggested by my internist revealed that my T-levels were negligible. Since then I've used a custom compound and I've also done one round of BioT bio-identical pellet therapy. Yes, the boost in libido is nice, but the game changer is Testosterone's impact on my sleep, alertness, emotional resilience and muscle quality to make just a few.

I’d love to try a small dose as it sounds amazing, but in the U.K., GPs don’t give it.

Hello I’m in the UK. You CAN get Testosterone gel but it’s difficult to prove you need it due to aforementioned ignorance/ backwardness of proper treatment for women. They will need you to be on estrogen first as this is seen as a ‘top up’ treatment ( despite the fact that our ovaries produce testosterone aswell as estrogen and progesterone. ) Due to various professionals fobbing off my horrendous symptoms I asked to be transferred to the Menopause clinic in Manchester. Amazing. So get a referral to a specialist clinic- they know more than the GPS and even the surgeon regarding after operation medication!

Hi I too am in the UK, it changed my life along (I put it on my inner thigh 3 pumps a week, no noticeable ‘extra hair’ I am fair and not a v hairy person....) with Estrogel pump. I got referred to Chelsea&Westminster Menopause Clinic the only NHS Meno service for Kent & London unbelievably! They are absolutely amazing. Your GP has to refer you to a specialist centre as they do not have enough specialist knowledge plus they cannot prescribe Testosterone. Good luck!!

Just an addendum to the lady below, there is also a specialist menopause clinic in North London at the Royal Free hospital, just in case this is closer to you. Best of luck

Hi, I’m in Norfolk and my very sympathetic GO wrote a lovely referral letter for me about complete loss of libido, fatigue, brain fog… and the clinic wrote back refusing an appointment saying that they only deal with oestrogen related symptoms!

I was going to try testosterone gel last year after I complained to my OB that my vj had died. He laughed a wrote me an RX for a gel, which my excellent insurance would not cover any of and it would cost me $600. I am in the US and I will definitely let my OB know about this the next time I see him. There is something that DOES work... good old porn/or about 10 minutes of vivid imagery (where I am the porn star and having some fun!!) that usually does the trick.

I’d love to know when you apply it. Do you do it in the mornings? Also where on the body do you put it? Thanks so much!

Hello Hope My ND prescribed and its cream. Its applied behind knees five days weekly and to labia two days a week (better absorbed) Benefits I have noticed: slight bump in energy, sex drive and I have noticed my hair has grown faster since being on it (8 weeks). I am in the US its is sent to compounding pharmacy and costs me $45. I admit, I have forgotten to apply some days so it lasts me over a month.

I have only been able to get testosterone gel through a private clinic, Newson health, they are fantastic. I have fibromyalgia and it has made a difference with reducing fatigue and pain. I was due to go in a higher dose as after blood test after 6 months of gel my base levels were still below the recommended levels however I can no longer afford it😞. I found it such a huge relief to have some hint of improvement in energy and once some debts are cleared will start again. I found the smallest hint of a libido when I was on it, maybe with the correct dose for me that would improve also? I just want to have more energy and a sex drive would be a bonus. I was told to put it on thighs, I was worried I’d get really hairy but had hint of extra hair in areas that I applied it too but decided quite frankly who cares if it helps with symptoms 😂
