I have a coil in so I can’t tell what my periods are/ would be doing. This means that I am not able to tell when to stop HRT.
Dee5 years ago
Hi Nic, My GP insisted that my coil was removed, which I wasn't happy with when I went with menopausal symptoms, so we agreed that I would have it removed on my next smear test, which was in 3 months time. (So I had patches and the coil still in place). When it was removed, I didn't have any bleeding, I was then two years on patches and then there was a shortage of the patches and my go asked if I would be happy to go onto anti depressants instead. After reading the side effects of the new drug (sweating, insomnia) I decided to go cold turkey and take nothing! I've had a few warm moments, every so often, but nothing like i had before and my sleep has never been wonderful, so still take my phanagan every night and touch wood I'm fine...so glad I decided to take a break and see how my body reacted.... And I'm sure if you ask your GP you can have a blood test to see where you are in menopausal journey. Hope that all makes sense. Dee x

I recently had my IUS removed as part of a colposcopy procedure and I had a very heavy period which I think the removal triggered. I stopped HRT at the same time due to the bleeding and a mild complication with the procedure I had had. My moods have been better since and I lost around 4-5ibs and no further bleeding (but this was only 5 weeks ago). I do have a few hot flushes but am trying to manage it, which I am doing, so as to see where my body is at. It’s a bit scary coming off the HRT, I had been on it 16mths, but I think it’s worth it to see where you are at. That said, it will be the coil that mainly impacts the bleeding so probably more a consideration of removing that rather than just stopping the HRT. I think ultimately, just do it when you feel ready.

I feel like I’ve entered peri menopause because I get hot flashes, insomnia, digestive upsets, and my periods are different than when I was in my thirties. They are heavier now, with more cramping.
Kristen2 years ago
That sounds totally on point. I’m well passed that but wish I’d had this app or even a shred of information during my peri phases. I personally found that the supplement Estroven (can get at Amazon or Walmart) helped me a lot and I still take it. I use the purple box. My hot flashes aren’t nearly as bad as other people I know and it helped with mood swings. As for heavy flow, that’s part of it. Just talk to your Dr about the intensity of it. Mine got to what I described as “crime scene” flow. 😂 It was horrific. I had a hysterectomy in 2021 due to several fibroids on my uterus, one pressing right on my bladder and man I was never so happy to be rid of my periods. Good luck, it is definitely a journey to behold!

I have the same exact issues day in and day out (we are the same age, as well). There are days I get so cranky for no reason and sometimes it’s to the point where I don’t even like myself - kind of like a super crabby toddler that needs a long nap ?

At the time, I was 36. After giving birth to my daughter back in 2018. I noticed that my periods were longer or shorter . Then my periods started coming every 60-90 days. I started having hot flashes and I went for a check up with my ob. He tested my FSH levels and it was at 125, which indicates menopause. At 38, as of Jan 2020. I’ve had only had one period. My anxiety, hot flashes and night sweats are terrible. I’m just trying find ways to cope better.

I’m now 37. I noticed that I just didn’t feel right. Awful periods started after having my youngest son at 34 then I had tube ligations. Long story short, a week ago I emails my Gp and said I’m sure I’m menopausal I’ve been having hot flashes for months and my period has stopped. FSH levels were 102 so now there’s talk about HRT and I’m so worried but also hate the way I feel. I have been battling low mood and insomnia amongst other things. A bit stunned really to be going through this at my age so relieved that I’m not alone. Thank you for sharing, Robin

Hi Charlie, I’m afraid of the risks that come with taking HRT, my mother uses it but in moderation. For the insomnia I’ve been taking this magnesium powder made by this company called moon juice. It’s helped me tremendously with being able to sleep and with the anxiety and for the hot flashes, I’ve drinking sage tea made by the Republic of Tea and I’ve been eating as clean as I can. I’ve had to slow down on drinking wine because it enhances my hot flashes. Im trying to find a multivitamin that offers everything I’m looking for. I’ve been doing lots of research since going through this. I walk everyday too, it also helps with the panic attacks. I just want to keep everything as healthy and natural as possible. Whatever I find I will keep you posted.

I find buying vitamins separate works better as there are many supplements with added minerals or vitamins that stop each other from being absorbed. Just check which ones you really need a boost. I find powders and liquids are better than capsules and tablets as they have less (pardon my French) crap in it. BioCare is good for liquids. If you try vitamin D look for D3 and non vegan.

Robin, how old are you? I’m 57!
Terri6 years ago
Nic, you waited to long to have a baby! I am 57 and started pre menapause at the age of 40! And to make things even more stressfully complicated for you, you now have to tend too your two year old, as a loving mother, with no irritation in your voice! Now may I point out, the child is very near curtain crawling age, (3 yrs) and may cause some of your anxiety along with Covid 19 worries! We all have a those worries, believe me! But, unless you are planning to go beyond the safe zone of 40, to have yet another child, I would suggest you not worry about your periods! Reason is: you will be losing your periods anyways because of pre menapause! The night sweats and day sweats are the norm (actually hot flashes) I now wear no sleeves on my blouses, and try to not wear long sleeves anytime of the year! I also have a fan blowing on me all night long and no covers or clothing on, and buy yourself some 800 thread count cotton sheets! Make sure your husband, ( if he is still with you) knows all there is to know about menapause! Drink lots of bottled water to keep very hydrated, and take vitamin B 12 to strengthen your mind, and Vitamin D 3 to help with energy! Since our bodies become depleted when we age, it is best to start a multiple vitamin supplement! For myself, I shop at Clark’s Nutrition, and that’s where I buy my vitamins! I have to take Vit D 10,000 mils and I take 5000 mils of liquid vit B 12, Hope this helps!

Just turned 51. Periods have been irregular this past year; skip months here and there. When I do have a period the cramps are unbearable although my flow has stayed much the same. My emotions are all over the place. Often feel nauseous at night. Trying to figure out what to do to help with that. I haven’t slept well for years - was recently diagnosed with sleep apnea and got a CPAP.
Rhinda6 years ago
I am 51 also. I am experiencing everything you are except the sleep apnea. I do take a natural supplement for sleep that is working most of the time that has a combo of melatonin, tryptophan and chamomile. My libido has decreased to almost 0% and I’ve gained weight and lost muscle mass and strength. Trying to figure out what works for that. I’m at a loss so far.

I had a hysterectomy in 2010. I was 38. Looking back I probably started having some symptoms right away. Definitely by 2013. I finally had my hormones checked last year and they are almost post menopausal levels. It explains a lot! I still have lots of perimenopausal symptoms. It’s hard knowing when the process started and where I am at in the process due to no cycle.

I located this app after reading “The Seven Gifts of Menopause” by Cheryl Bridges Johns. I highly recommend it. She gave me back a bit of sanity and I now better understand what my body is going through.

The flushes and anxiety started 7 days after my 50th birthday. They were really intense. I am now 58. Still get these symptoms only not as intense. It’s the dryness that really bothers me at the minute, and my nails are so brittle.
Renee6 years ago
I am six years into this. With no sign of relief. Did anybody try anything other than hormone replacement therapy??
Mavreplying to Renee6 years ago
Yes black cohosh didn’t work Red clover. Didn’t work That magnetic thing you wear in your underwear. Didn’t work. I tried them all for 4-6 months. Nothing. The only thing that helped and not very much was deep breathing through the anxiety and the hot flushes. Also when the flushes were intense don’t drink alcohol. This made the flushes much worse.

Hi Mav I took liquid collagen, mainly to help with thinning hair and brittle nails, what I wasn’t expecting as no one had mentioned it in the reviews, was that it really helped significantly with vaginal dryness.

I have no idea what to do! Every night I wake up with bounding heart beat. It literally wakes me out of sleep. Some nights it’s two to three times. My chest hurts, GI is upset. I am absolutely going crazy. These are not hot flashes and people say panic attacks. I am absolutely exhausted. These attacks last two hours for my body to return to “normal”. I absolutely cannot understand why this has become EVERY night.
Llané6 years ago
This happens to me too. Not every night like you, but often. I wake up with the most intense worry (nothing in particular, just a sense of doom and worry), coupled with sweats, hot flushes and heart palpitations. I then really struggle to go back to sleep. What helps, is reading my book on my kindle which calms me and helps me get back to sleep. It can last for anything between a sudden short spell of 10-20 minutes, to hours on end...

I understand completely
Jennifer6 years ago
This started happening to me about a year ago (I am 50) on a regular basis at night, and has occasionally progressed into the day time hours as well. I literally thought I was having heart problems and had to go get that ruled out. What you are describing is so similar to what I am having so I feel for you. I spend the time reading on my phone or playing mind-numbing games until it goes away. Then I am exhausted and can’t function in the morning. The only thing that has somewhat helped for me is taking CBD oil an hour or so before bed and trying to head it off at the pass so to speak.
Nancyreplying to Jennifer5 years ago
I had the same thing 3 years ago. I had a few nights where I couldn’t sleep at all. I couldn’t read or watch tv because everything made my anxiety worse. During the day I would have a knot in my stomach and the anxiety was constant - if I interacted with people it would or exercised it would go away but always came back. I tried managing with exercise and mindfulness but after 4 months I gave up and went on Lexapro. My anxiety is gone but I am now on the Lexapro indefinitely and fear if I go off of it the anxiety will come back. It was an awful experience I never want to go through again.

Are you on HRT? I’ve been experiencing this for the last 4 weeks. Literally feels like I’m being pulled back from the dead, like I’ve been tasered! There’s no hot sweat, just a feeling of absolute fear followed by crippling insomnia. I have an inner shake (day and night) and literally everything makes me jump out of my skin. However, I’ve recently been prescribed HRT - I’m 47 and still have regular periods and I’m not experiencing hot flashes. I do have other peri menopausal symptoms. These changes and nightly ‘power’ surges made me pause the HRT as they only started occurring after. The doc said she didn’t think it was the reason as I’ve tolerated both the combined and mini pill in the past so HRT should be fine. I’ve literally this week tried HRT again and 2 days in it was like I was cattle pronged in my sleep. My plan is to stop all medication for a month and see what happens. If symptoms persist then I’m going to GP for further investigation. Being a woman sucks sometimes!
Chrissy4 years ago
Hi Kimberly- this may not be anything to do with menopause. My husband was having exactly the same symptoms- very scary . We learned his heart rate would lower after he went to the loo (not for a wee), inconvenient at 0230! He had a barrage of heart tests - nothing. I decided to try cutting things out of his diet and we hit lucky on first go - Gluten!!! Since cutting out gluten he no longer has this distressing event. These days it’s easier than you think to go GF, just have to read labels and there are a lot of groups on the internet theses days. Hope you find out what causes yours soon.

I have the same but fortunately go back to sleep quickly, feel a constant low level anxiety like a fluttering in my chest. I have really found that mindfulness helps, the calm app is really good and has sleep stories that also help. Otherwise the classic remedies of wide open windows and I have a gel cool pad in my pillow which also helps a bit. I think what keeps us awake and can become a focus is anxiety which then makes the heat worse and personally, that’s where I have really found the mindfulness breathing has made a huge difference

My periods are pretty irregular. Cycle can be 14 days, 24 days and sometimes 40+ days. Not getting hot flushes particularly or any other really obvious symptoms other than brain fog which could be linked and headaches.
HD6 years ago
I don’t understand the categories of menopause. I haven’t had a period in over 3 years. Doesn’t that make me peri menopause and not post menopause? I’m still going through it.
Robin6 years ago
Hi HD, Perimenopause or "menopause transition": Perimenopause can begin eight to 10 years before menopause. Menopause is the point when a woman no longer has menstrual periods. Menopause is diagnosed when a woman has gone without a menstrual period for 12 consecutive months. Postmenopause: This is the name given to the period of time after a woman has not bled for an entire year (the rest of your life after going through menopause). During this stage, menopausal symptoms, such as hot flashes, may ease for many women. However, some women continue to experience menopausal symptoms for a decade or longer after the menopause transition. So, if you haven’t had a period in 3 years then you’d be considered as post menopause.

Has anyone got any advice on breast cancer induced menopause? What can be taken if you cannot take HRT due to oestrogen positive cancer?

My mum has induced menopause due to breast cancer, she was put on tamoxifen as part of the ongoing treatment, it gave her terrible hot flushes. After 5 years she was given the option to stop taking it, which she did and the rate and frequency of hot flushes decreased dramatically. May be worth a consideration if you are on it too xx

Just turning 49 tomorrow . I have been in Peri menopause for around 3 years now. One recent thing that is driving me crazy is dry flaky skin. My lower legs seem to constantly shed skin cells and now my left breast seems to be very dry and flaky too. I also seem to itch. My skin crawls at times - usually as evening draws on. Is this common? Any tips on ways to alleviate?

I suffer with patchy dry skin and used to want to die of embarrassment taking off my underwear as there would sometimes be a cloud of dead skin. The nurse I spoke to about it prescribed Clobavate Ointment and it has been a godsend. I still get dry patches, including my hairline, forehead and now my stomach and shins too, but I am able to keep it under control with the ointment. Between flare ups I use Aveeno moisturiser. I hope you find some relief soon

I have regulate periods but my mood swings are horrible. Headaches. Can’t sleep. Vaginal dryness. Lack of sexual drive. Snappy. Anxiety. Other people are noticing now and it’s just not pleasant. I hate being horrible and snappy.
Ali6 years ago
I have suffered with anxiety for years and mood swings became such an issue it affected my job. Like you, I hated it and it was making me so miserable I was in the brink of a depressive episode and I didn’t want to tumble down that hole again. To help I’ve been using Bach’s Rescue Remedy for anxiety, which does often trigger mood swings. I have also been practicing meditation and yoga and now I feel physically stronger to cope with whatever life throws at me (which in turn has helped with anxiety), and my anxiety is managed with various breathing techniques. I’ve even learned techniques that I can use in meetings and busy public places and no one knows I’m doing it. I hope you find something that helps

Hi Sharon, the fact that you notice the mood changes. Allow your self to feel them. Know it is okay, what you can do is journal and also let your friends and family know when you don’t feel your best let them know and ask them not to personalize your moods and that you need extra patience from them during this time. Be patient with yourself and do positive things to balance those moods. Check your foods you are eating and drinking at that time and go from there.

I am very post menopause (age 66) - but I still have little control of my temperature though I don’t break out into hot sweats as much as I did up to 5 years ago. There was next to no information about menopause when I was in the thick of it and I’m fascinated to see what symptoms have been attributed to it. Am I still und et going it?
Veronica3 years ago
Hi Rosy, I just found this app as I am looking for answers. I’m 64 and am very post menopause as well. The hot flashes diminish for a few months at a time but have never gone away completely. Just lately, hot flashes, night sweats, nauseousness have returned with a vengeance. I passed out in my kitchen one late night getting a head injury in the process. Had awoken about 2am with hot flash and feeling dehydrated and had gotten up to get a cold glass of water. Anyway. I’m stumped. Can’t believe this is happening/still happening to me. One 70 year old lady told me “it only gets worse”. !! Ugh.

I had endometrial ablation about 3 years ago, I haven’t had a period since. I used to get hot flushes with ovulation, now I get them several times every day and night. I’m 40! I selected induces menopause, I guess that’s correct for me! I’ve also gained around 3 stone since my op, my diet hasn’t changed since enough to warrant that so I guess that’s the menopause too. I take a variety of vitamins to try and help, cod liver oil, evening primrose, vitamin b complex, vitamin c, vitamin D, apple cider vinegar. I’m also on fluoxetine 20mg for anxiety and hormonal related depression.

I started having symptoms when I was young (30ish)hot flushes , night sweats, noticing my moods were changing and feeling low all the time , heavy periods when I was around 35 sometimes they would last for 2 months so went to my GP who done blood tests and confirmed i had premature ovarian failure! And said I was young for this to happen. By the time I was 39 my periods had completely stopped and I was told I was post menopausal I thought yay no more periods ! If only it were that simple ! I’m now 47 and I have been left with really bad anxiety where I think the worst is going to happen every day and my stomach turns all day also still have sleeping problems, sometimes I could sleep all night other times I’m awake most of the night and shattered at work the next day , I also have times where I get really bad indigestion I get so fedup with myself feeling like this . I would love to feel normal again but don’t think that will ever happen . I opted to do this without HRT and it’s been tough .

I had a hysterectomy in 2012- was given the impression I’d crash into menopause and be out the other side in 6 months. I’m still experiencing hot flushes, insomnia and dryness It is hell! But I’m going to try this app and log my symptoms to see if I can manage them better

I am four years well into peri menopause. Symptoms have gotten worse with mood swings, emotional outbursts, some brain fog, insomnia and likely some depression thrown in too. Some days I wonder what is the point of it all. My periods had gone from regular to semi-regular one every other month. Now they have moved to one every four months. So this is the least of my worry. Today I have dug out the supplements I bought a while ago and will see if sticking with them will make a difference.

I have gain 30 pounds since my last period almost 4 months ago. I use to jog/speed walk almost daily for 6 miles. Now I barely have the energy to walk my pup for a 1/2 mile. Our family have been eating Paleo since my oldest daughter started having gut problems as a freshman in college several of years ago. I no longer have soda, barely drink alcohol and have increased my water intake. This kept my weight steady and healthy. But now nothing works! The doctor ran test and everything is good, normal even. My waist keeps increasing which makes me feel unattractive, undesirable and depressed... which make me feel tired all the time. Sex was always extremely, wonderfully, amazing for me. Now a nap, or going to bed early(when I can sleep) always sounds better... which me make depressed. It a vivacious cycle!!! I found this app when I was looking for one that I could keep track of my symptoms. It is nice knowing that others are feeling the same as me. Sharing what works and might possible work for me. Thank you for being here!

I have no idea what’s going on! In the last 15 months I’ve had radiotherapy to my abdomen, a chunk of bowel cut out, then 6 months of chemo, and 6 months of lockdown. Oh and I was still breast feeding (it was tailing off naturally so only once a day or so) when I was diagnosed. So far my symptoms have been mild (over shadowed by chemo etc etc??), but I need to get my head around what is menopause and what’s not before I have a hope of dealing with any of it.

I was launched into the menopause after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2018 at age 45. I had a radical hysterectomy and when I came round from the anaesthetic, I was in full menopause. This means I have very little choice in what treatments, if any I can have. I can’t have any kind of HRT for example. The only thing I take regularly is evening primrose oil. The hot flushes have been immense, initially I was getting several an hour. The frequency has decreased but the intensity has increased. Also the night sweats mean I don’t think I’ve slept a full night in over two years - and I’ve tried everything. I get palpitations with the hot flushes and also sometimes feel nauseous. I have vicious mood swings and my brain just doesn’t seem to function at points - usually at important points when I’m speaking at a meeting etc. Aside from all of these awful things, I am very thankful as if I hadn’t been induced into full menopause by my op, I wouldn’t be here today. The hysterectomy saved my life so I kind of feel bad complaining...

I’ve honestly no idea. I had my cancerous womb and cervix removed in 2010, but kept my ovaries. My GP tells me I’m near menopause but not in it yet. How do I explain all of the effects I’m having which are EXACTLY the same as menopause symptoms? If I’m not going through it yet then I’ve got a helluva rotten journey to go through when it does start if any of these symptoms are to go by. What tests do I need my GP to do so that I can find out for definite? It’s all driving me mad ?

I’ve just turned 50. I must have been having symptoms for past four years but didn’t realise what it was. It coincided with other changes in my life and a bereavement, so put a lot of it down to that. I feel I can face whatever comes along now.

I began having hot flushes, migraines, night sweats and vaginal dryness aged 27 straight after giving birth to my 3rd and last child. By my early 30’s I started getting frequent vaginal infections culminating in 4 years of constant debilitating pelvic pain at the end of which I was told it was caused by congestion of the blood vessels in my my pelvic area and a hormone given off by my ovaries. This resulted in a total hysterectomy from which I awoke uncomfortable from the op but totally pain free, However the menopause symptoms went up a notch and I was constantly either unbearably hot or shivering with cold until I was put on the highest dose of HRT which returned my menopause symptoms to the pre-hysterectomy level. I had to take early retirement due to the almost daily migraines, having tried acupuncture, reflexology, homeopathy and various drugs to control them. The only thing by wits doctor had suggested that I didn’t try was doubling the HRT which my GP wanted to take me off of. I finally came off HRT at about age 58 an at 66, although I still have uncomfortable hot flushes, I no longer need to keep putting a cold wet towel round my neck whilst sitting in church and feel a bit more ‘normal’. You say in the intro that the symptoms last up to 15 years. They lasted my mother 15 years but have lasted me 39 years so far!

I have regular periods but I suffer from anxiety, IBS, migraines, mood swings, fatigue and brain fog which have an impact of my personal and professional life. I have pernicious anaemia which requires a B12 injection every 2 months and I suffer from a under active thyroid. Since the lock down, I have been doing meditation which has helped me a lot. I also follow an intermittent fasting and eat healthy which has made a difference but I am still struggling with brain fog and I don’t know how to deal with this symptom. Any suggestions would be a great help. Thank you for sharing.

I just think I’m beginning this journey. I’ve been feeling hot and sweaty multiple times a day, and my periods have been irregular. Actually, I haven’t gotten my period and I should’ve gotten it around 20 days ago, but based on how I’m feeling, I don’t think I’m getting it at all. I feel kind of lost, and I don’t feel I can talk about it with anybody.

I’m almost 55 and to be honest I just want to walk away from my life at times. I take a lot of medication for various issues and my mum had breast cancer in her 30s. For these reasons my doctor has said I can’t take HRT which is fine. However I asked about taking some natural remedies but he said with the medication I’m on he’d rather I didn’t take anything as it could upset my whole system. I feel so alone. My mum is dead, my sister lives abroad as do my sister-in-laws. I have lost contact with a number of girlfriends and find it hard to motivate myself to reach out to my other friends. My husband of 30 years is very good but I know he’s really struggling with my mood swings, constant sweats and headaches coming out of nowhere and other symptoms. I’ve explained to him about the menopause and given him various articles to read but I know he’s finding it hard as even I don’t like myself a lot of the time. Today he said I wasn’t the person I used to be and I feel like that too. I’ve tried counselling, I try to read and research as much as possible but I’m struggling big style. Any advice from others would be great. Thanks.

My husband tries to understand also, but really it is so hard when we feel like we are alone and suffering in our own minds to find our identity and way forward. My anxiety about my health, physical symptoms, and crazy moods swings have made me question my sanity. At one point I wondered daily if I could ever be happy with all the ups and downs, and truly satisfied with my life as it was. I’ve recognized what it is now which helps, but I still have really awful days where I am pretty self-destructive with my thoughts. Remember you are NOT alone, and the fact that you are here means you can reach out to others that are feeling the same way, even if we don’t have all the answers. Hugs to you.

I am totally confused by my menopause journey, I am 54 years of age and have been taking antidepressants since mid 20s. It was mentioned at first that it could be early onset menopause but I laughed at that so no further investigation was done, over time mood stabilisers were added to my medication, then pain killers and then 2 years ago menopause was mentioned again and HRT given as patches, patches became unavailable so given tablets then cream for dryness. I have not had a bleed in 30 years apart from an odd show but this was put down to birth control, stopped taking that in 30s. I had a couple of bleeds in last 12 months but was told that was over use of cream causing a reaction. So I have no answer to where am I in my menopause journey? The hot flashes are mostly under control, dryness is a concern but the biggest worry are my mood and mood swings, I feel so guilty, sorry for the people who have to put up with me at work and my poor husband amazing I still have him. If anyone can answer the where am I question let me know, please really I would love to know the answer. Doctor just tells me not to worry about it and is changing my antidepressants as they see that as the issue.

In perimenopause for about 2 years now, I think. Hit me like a brick. Couldn’t stop crying, didn’t want to leave the house. Had to have 3 months off work. Went on antidepressants which helped me to feel nothing. Switched onto HRT, have changed several times. Now on oestrogen patch, mirena coil and testosterone cream. I AM SURVIVING BUT I AM NOT LIVING. I ache, I’m tired, I’m emotional, I don’t want to do anything. I hate the fact that I am going to feel like this for a long time. And I don’t know what to do.

Similar to a story I saw yesterday, I didn’t even realize I was entering peri menopause. I’ve had regular, 7 day periods since I was 12. When I was 47, I started getting random excessively heavy periods. About 5 days long &; day 2 was almost unmanageably heavy. I didn’t really think much about it, I had other stuff going on. Fast forward 3 years, I started getting it full on, every other frickin week over the course of the summer. I was so tired all the time. And, being a bodybuilder &; horsewoman, I had no real energy to do them properly. According to blood tests, nothing was goin on. An ultrasound found fibroids. So, doc sent me to gyno & early this year I had a d&c. I then had normal period twice, then nothing for three months - oh boy did I have my fingers crossed! But, then it hit me with a vengeance & one day i went through 16 ultra tampons in 9 hrs! Then tapered off. After two of these which have a major impact on my daily life, my doc prescribed norethindrone POP. Although this month, I’ve had my period twice albeit less heavily. I’ve never dealt with having a period very well anyway, so I’d really be happy if it would just Quit! ?. Lol.

I have always had regular periods and mild to no cramps and boob pain. Fast forward to now: I am 50 and suddenly experiencing tender breasts, worst cramps ever and spotting between ever-closer periods. At night I lay in bed and worry, accompanied by frustrating hot and cold episodes. I just finished a 3 day horrible cramp-fest when my period was normally due, but with no period at all. To someone who has never had an issue with cramping, this has come as a shock, and has not helped with my anxiety thinking about all the other things that could be wrong. I basically got this app to help with health anxiety and to feel like this is normal, even though I am admittedly freaked out by these new symptoms.

I’m 52 and not had a period for 12 months now - menopause. I have brain fog. Hot flashes, Irritability, mood swings and foods that now upset my stomach very easily. I now exercise as much as I can and have reduced sugar from my diet and stated eating more healthy which has helped to reduce lot of the symptoms. I also purchased a magnet for menopause symptoms that I wear on my waistband which has helped with the hot flashes as they have now stopped.

I’m already hating everything about this,, I’m having awful flushes, day and night. My moods are horrendous, I’m crying all the time, this is not me, I am not this person, I have always been the life and soul of everything, I really don’t like the person this is turning me into.. Iv been told not to take HRT because my mum has breast cancer, but I’m honestly wondering if it’s worth the risk.

I’m having to adjust to irregular periods now, I used to be like clockwork but in the last year they have started to change, I’m 47(almost 48). I found it really upsetting to have a 16 day cycle or a 34 day cycle, then regular And never know when they are arriving. I feel a bit overwhelmed when they arrive suddenly and my mental health and self esteem are definitely impacted. Any advice on being able to go with the new cycles. I am vegan, take supplements, don’t drink or smoke and exercise regularly. I have been through a very stressful time and wondering if stress impacts?

Turned 55 during the Covid - my menopausal systems were previously limited to hot flushes these were increased when I took a mixed vitamin combination so I had to take them individually! I have tried self-hypnosis which has help a lot with other personal issues. I have been on low carbs, high protein and fat eating plan which has helped enormously and incorporated a blood-type diet which helped me discover that any type of product which had potatoes brought on arthritis and corn brought on indigestion! Now discovered that my hair is starting to fall out and thin out - on my next quest to find my answer to that and many other symptoms that have been raised in this App - it has helped a lot in reading how it affects all types of women differently! x

Hi! I’ve been doing Keto since Feb 2019. My hair thinned out a lot! Had to go with a short haircut because I know I’m healthier which is so much more important than vanity. Hang in there. Drink plenty of electrolytes. NOT GATORADE. Get some good electrolytes with 1000 mg if potassium. Watch some videos on YouTube. Make sure they are posted by doctors. Dr Mindy Pelz is my fave. I feel a lot better now that I’ve cut down tremendously on carbohydrates and my hair is looking better than ever after the initial fallout. I enjoy adding fasting to my low carb lifestyle but women our age have to be mindful of when we fast during our cycle. Not supposed to fast from days 21-28. So, if I don’t have a period due to partial hysterectomy I can’t tell where I’m at in my cycle. Or do I still have a cycle? I still get tender breasts and irritability, but I don’t know if that’s on day 14 or 21 or what ? That’s why I’m here. Trying to get some help with that. Good luck with everything.

Don’t know where I am with it. I was having hot flushes during the 4 months they stopped but am thinking now wax it just the hot weather we had as they have stopped now I am taking supplements so it could be that they have just started to work feel drained while I’m bleeding though ??

I’m not great at writing, but want to share. I believed at 54 years old I was already done with all of this. I’m at day 501 of no periods. I went nearly 2 years with extremely heavy gross periods with heavy clotting. I had to stay home more often, because it was too hard to go anywhere. Then finally my periods stopped, I had mild to mid depression and didn’t want to do much. I’m tired a lot, and my hips hurt. Oh, after reading others, I have major insomnia ? I for a long time only get maybe 3.5-5 at best hours of sleep. Usually closer to 3.5-4. That in itself can make you crazy. That’s my story.

I have just turned 50 and had a coil fitted 5 years ago due to severe bleeding and cramps as I suffer from polycystic ovaries. During COVID I have started getting what I presume are hot flashes as my internal temperature goes up accompanied sometimes by a headache and blotchy skin on my chest and face and cold hands, it happens on and off some days, I also experienced cold shivers for the first time as well on a hot day had to put the heater on, it is worrying during COVID as not sure if I’ve started perimenopause or have caught something as my boss has come down with a head cold. I have had a few days now of waking early and feeling fatigued, my pollen allergies seem worse as the antihistamine I take is not working as well. I am also forgetting things in conversations and making silly mistakes at work and have put on a lot of weight around my middle. It really is early days for me but not helped when you don’t know if to self isolate from your family because of the “temperature” or if this is normal.

It’s been 8 months since my last period, and in these 8 month, I feel like my body has gone into full blown menopause overnight. I’ve been having hot flashes off and on since I was 39, but now (I’m 42) it seems like they are almost constant. I feel like I should be keeping track of when I DON’T have them. And now my mood swings and anxiety are so severe! Lately I’ve noticed the joint pain/stiffness and the brain fog are getting worse, and then fatigue is just nearly unbearable... but I can’t ever sleep. My poor wife begs me to talk to my Gyn about HRT... I’m making an appointment next week.

Everything kicked off when I was 44 , heavy periods what actually was happening was the lining of my womb was coming away . It toke a male Doctor to get me a hysterectomy. After the operation it was the best decision I made . However it brought me straight into menopause, i am going on 52 this year and my life is horrendous with it . My biggest issue is sleep , brain fog hot flushes and massive weight gain and also suffer with thyroid issues. I have tried the patches don’t work ,I suffer terribly with anxiety, I have had two major traumatic experience’s trying to over come them also . I find now when will I know my new normal with no menopause, I am exhausted. My personality I am extremely strong however I am just tired now and extremely fed up . Any suggestions I would welcome as I have just started a new career change and I fear lack of sleep will ruin it for me. Stay safe to all xx thanks for dropping by

Hi All! In the last couple of years I’ve noticed lots of different symptoms all relating to coming into menopause. Hair thinning, extreme tiredness, heavier than usual periods, headaches, night sweats, brain fog, mood swings, weight gain and joint pain. I still have regular periods which I find strange that I’d have these symptoms but still be menstruating. Is there an order that things happen? Any kind of timescale? Thank you in advance x

I have always had irregular periods as a teenager and an adult. I last had a period on June,2020. The last one was in April, 2019. I called Primary Care Doctor and they directed me to a gynecologist. So I had an ultrasound on my uterus as of August 2020. And as of September 22, I had a biopsy on my uterus. The initial findings were an enlarged right ovary. It has a cyst. Then there are two very little cysts near my cervix. The doctor said not to worry. Too late for that. But if I have any more unexpected bleeding then I need to return for an appointment with a doctor. I’m praying that this isn’t serious. I am a Mom of two adult daughters. One of my daughters had made me a happy Grandmother of an awesome 5 year old boy. I’m hoping for the best.

I’ve been having menopause symptoms since I was 25 due to endometriosis. I am now 48, had a hysterectomy 7 years ago, hrt for 5+ years and basically too tired of this :’(

I’m ‘guessing’ I’m in perimenopause. I had a partial hysterectomy at 43, but every month like clockwork the PMS would occur and I could tell it was ‘that time of the month’ even though I no longer had a period. Now that my symptoms are all over the place, I can no longer tell if I’m in a cycle or not. I still get moody and my breasts are sometimes tender, but that’s about the only signs of my cycle that are still present. I’m seeing more signs of perimenopause at age 50. I have hot flashes and irritability mostly. So I think I make a pretty good guess that yes, I am perimenopausal. I’m a person who enjoys fasting and you’re not supposed to fast when you’re going into days 21 - 28 of your cycle. Does anyone have a clue what day of your cycle tender breasts occurs as this is the only sign I have if my cycle at all. What day am I on when my breast’s get tender??

I don’t think I’ve ever gotten an explanation from a doctor on why, after 13 years, I still have hot flashes after entering menopause after a hysterectomy. I don’t recall one, anyway! I’ve taken different HRTs over the years. Now on estradiol. About to experiment with a low dosage of an anti-depressant—forget the name.

I’m almost 2 years into the joyous peri journey, turning 54 next month. Brain fog and weight gain are my least favorite companions. The hot flashes have been almost non-existent since I quit alcohol, though I still get a bit warm sometimes after coffee. I’m not ready to give it up yet. ? I struggle with low energy and mood, an almost “out of body” experience at times. Very disconcerting. One supplement that’s helped my cramps and flo is FLO pms gummy vitamins (I’m in the States). I don’t need nearly as much ibuprofen since starting them. Best wishes to all. What warriors we are. ♥️

I was perimenopausal when I realised I was loosing “myself” - The smart, multi juggling, confident person, tackle anything was walking like I had the weight of the world on me literally and my body was breaking down.. with aches and pains everywhere, could not sleep as painful to turn over in the night, could not rememember things, snappy at home and with my team at work. Coping with things I could “normally” swish through were impossible. I was seriously considering quitting my job. I thought “54... dementia?” Then thought Menopause. My older sisters 14 and 12 years older said they had “no problems”. I took over the counter remedies for 6 months but no relief or serious change. Finally at GP when I broke down in a heap.. and blood tests revealed I was Perimenopausal. I started to take HRT and within 2 weeks, I/me returned! I have been on HRT for 3.5 years .. switched 2 years ago to Femoston-continue and am STILL me. I do still wake in the night and rise early and at certain times of month have back pain and other occasional joint pain but I am on an “even keel” and keen to help people be more aware of this life (in all aspects) change women face. I don’t have children but have wonderful nieces (late forties) and talk with them about the next stages of our lives.

I have not had periods for over 8 years as I had previously suffered with extremely heavy and painful periods and had a procedure to remove the lining of my womb. I therefore have no idea what stage of menopause I am in, but have had various symptoms now for several years and recently my emotions and fatigue have got much worse. I’m 49 years old.

I started peri in my mid 30’s and meno by 39. I’m now 48. In the beginning doctors never tested my FSH and when they did in a matter of 7 months i went from a 5 to 143. It was a roller coaster of emotion as i went through two uterine biopsies and that was the first confirmation that i was going through meno. I haven’t taken any HRT or was I ever prescribed or suggested that I try. I go through my phases of continuous feeling warmer than norm. Sleeping with windows open and fans hitting me directly to feel cool and if that doesn’t work i Drink water to only have to wake up in the middle of the night many times to relieve myself. Incontinence is my biggest challenge and I warned my husband he may be changing my diaper sooner than he’d like. I really want to find a solution for the incontinence mainly in the evening. Grateful for this community.

I am in surgically induced menopause. I had surgery almost 3 weeks ago and have been doing the temperature swings. The night sweats have been the most significant symptom. I just started HRT under a week ago and it may be helping already. I suddenly feel like no one really talked to me about what to expect, other than hot flashes. I feel like I’m going to suddenly gain 20 pounds on my belly and lose all of my hair from the things I’ve read.

I am also surgically induced menopause I had surgery two weeks ago, I have been having the same thing with temperature and night sweets, I started the estradiol patch I’m on my second patch and it’s helping a little already I think. Girl I am in the same boat I feel like I was not prepared for this at all. The one thing my doctor told me was surgically induced menopause that the symptoms would be more intense than natural menopause and that’s all I got lol. I totally feel the same way when I started reading about it I was like omg. I’m here if you want to talk

Hello everyone. I’ve just joined this app. I think I had been cruising relatively well through menopause - although it’s hard to believe I’m 48 and post menopausal 3 years! In the last month I’ve had a wake up call with some prolapse bladder issues and am now taking Vagifem Low to hopefully improve the situation. It’s rocked me! Feeing vulnerable and like I can’t be sure of my body function anymore. It’s always been strong and let me do so much- I guess I’m just processing it but geez I wish I’d had some heads up of what may happen. Has anyone else has genitoury issues or taking localised vaginal estrogen? Love to hear your thoughts and experiences. Foxy x

I knew and, for the most part, know almost nothing about menopause even though I am 55 and had my last period 2 and a bit years ago (although I was using an IUD as my last form of birth control, which usually stops your period, so ?!?!). My Oncologists treat me as if I am post-menopause, so I guess I am. But wouldn’t it have been nice if they, or any of my other doctors told we what that really meant? Or asked me about my symptoms? When I asked my OBGYN about Hot Flashes, Sudden Severe cold flashes, and Night Sweats, she basically blew me off…. So where am I supposed to get information? Especially tailored to me & my many health problems?!?!?

I’m 54. It’s been about 9 months since my last period. I wake several times a week drenched in sweat. I’ve been on HRT (bio-identical) for about 6 years, take antidepressants, and a form of gabapentin for aver 8 years. I don’t know what else I can do to stop these night sweats. I sleep with my windows open and the room is at about 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Is there any hope of getting these night sweats under control? I’ll also sweat during the day and these sweats come with a low-grade fever. I can’t take it!

I’m 45 and have just in the last 6 months noticed hot flashes, night sweats and increased vaginal dryness. I have had hormonal migraines for 30 years. My last two cycles I started eating organic soybeans (at the recommendation of two docs), and they helped tremendously with pms symptoms and my pre-period migraines and mood. I have a few genetic snps that cause things like inefficient detoxing and histamine intolerance. I get so angry sometimes about feeling chronically ill.

I have ADHD, and I NEVER knew that hormonal changes in perimenopause can exacerbate ADHD symptoms (for me, mainly cognition)... I feel like I'm losing my mind! I had a meltdown while trying to play a freaking card game called Phase 10 with my in-laws because, even though I've played the game before, my brain suddenly could NOT grasp the slightly "difficult" rules and I wasn't understanding how to play. It was terrifying!

Anyone else have ovaries but no uterus (since 2016 — I’m 44 now) and have no idea if you are with respect to menopause because you don’t even have a period? It’s so frustrating.
Tina2 years ago
I am unsure how to answer this…so I had my bloodwork done to see where my hormone levels are and was told I am definitely in menopause. No need for birth control anymore, my levels are low enough that it’s definitely happened. It had been 10 months since my last period. I was super excited! Went home and told my husband and then started another period! That was March 6th. I bled heavily for over a week, lightly for a few days and then stopped for a few days, then started spotting again. Still spotting. Supper confused, immediately called my doctor to find out what this is…is this my last hurrah or what? I know the hormone tests are not definitive but to be told my levels were LOW and I was clearly in full menopause and then go through all that again was super frustrating! Doctor is not calling me back. I still don’t know. Mainly I want to know if I still have to worry about birth control. Has this ever happened to anyone here? I’d love to know what your doctor told you. Still trying to get ahold of mine!

I’m 51 and had my ovaries removed two months ago putting me into instant menopause. I had a partial hysterectomy when I was 45. I’ve had generalized anxiety disorder for 20 years but have been having increased panic attacks. My last one was 4 days ago. The hot flashes are getting worse as well. I started taking Woman’s one a day for menopause vitamin but it’s too early to tell if it’s working. I am also low iron deficient so I have anemia. From my research, Low iron can cause anxiousness and panic attacks as well. I’m so glad to have found this app. To know we are not alone in this journey is very helpful. Along with my faith, and finding the right doctor I think we can help each other!!

I am now at the stage of perimenopause where my periods are missing. They are no longer heavy nor monthly. It’s the end of July and I haven’t had a real period since March. I am on BHRT (progesterone only at the moment) so it’s possible that the dose I’m at is keeping me from having ovulation and menstruation. There are times I feel some light cramping in my lower abdomen area like it’s trying to start. I am 46 so who knows? 🤷🏻♀️ I think the worse thing about this “change in life” are the mood changes. I already suffer from anxiety and depression but they both are amplified now that I’m in peri. I will cry at the drop of a hat or anxiety strikes at any given moment. It’s really disrupting my daily life. I really can’t wait for this to be over.

I’m 41 and I was forced into menopause surgically, I had a total hysterectomy(all lady parts removed) I had the surgery two weeks ago and boy is it a rough recovery, not to mention all of the symptoms from menopause. It’s tough to figure out what is what cause I’m still recovering. I feel like I’m swimming in a damn puddle of sweat when I wake up lol, I’m hot and cold all the time. I am constantly peeing it’s like I can’t empty my bladder(not sure that’s a menopause symptom or not). I’m having anxiety, mood swings, irritability. You name it I’m having it, my doctor told me cause I was surgically forced into menopause and not going through it naturally my symptoms would be more intense. Anyone that has been through surgical menopause do you feel like your symptoms are more intense?

I had my last period 3 years ago. Perimenopause was fairly simple but once my periods stopped everything changed. Full blown symptoms. Where am I in my menopause journey ? I’ve decided to take the plunge and explore the world of HRT after a couple of years of suffering through the symptoms. I’m only on day 3 but I’m hoping this is the missing piece of the puzzle to starting to feel more like myself again

Hello ladies! I entered menopause a little over 1 year ago. Even with HRT I’m still having nervousness, anxiety, can you give me some suggestions to relieve these symptoms. I also walk around 3 miles a day.

Hiya everyone! So I’m 26 years old and was medically induced into menopause three years ago due to ovarian cancer. I honestly feel like I’m free falling and don’t really have anyone who understands what I’m going through ( mom just barely began perimenopause). If there’s anyone who was medically induced into menopause I would love to hear from you and what the heck is going to happen to my body since it was forced to start menopause decades before it’s time. I know HRT is a lifesaver but unfortunately because of the type of ovarian cancer I had I am unable to get estrogen or testosterone so any other advice is greatly appreciated!
