Can you actually start bleeding again after almost 7 months with no periods? Prior to this I would have them closer together say every two weeks then I’ve had some months where I’ve missed a couple but nothing this length of time. I honestly was hoping this was the end but now I’m unsure what’s happening? Anyone else like this?– Michelle, Lancashire

I absolutely am going through the same thing. I went six months off then 2 weeks on. I’m on 4 months off. Light spotting in between. It’s not over until 12 months off. I’m 49.

I had a period in December last year and then nothing. I assumed that was it and then last Saturday, out of the blue, a blob of blood and it’s almost as though the sight of that alien blob of blood in my pyjamas suddenly unleashed dreadful cramps all the way from my belly button to my knees for the rest of that day. I’ve no idea what’s going on... I’m sorry I don’t have answers - but at least you’re not alone x

The same thing happened to me and then I went another few months before it happened again and then it stopped. I found the last two periods that I had were really heavy; more than I had ever had before. I haven’t had one now for 21 months and I had a test that confirmed I was out the other side!

Mine followed a similar pattern to yours then my periods stopped. I had one light period after 5-6 months then nothing again and that was 14 months ago. Nothing since.

Hi, I’m 49 and after very spotty periods for more than 6 months.....I started bleeding the beginning of June. It scared me to death when it wouldn’t stop. Along with bloodwork, I was referred for vaginal ultrasound... results showed my lining has become thickened. My hormones are whacked and so both things play into the continuous bleeding. I have a second sonogram end of August to see about the thickening. I will go from there after that apt. My bleeding has finally seemed to taper down to a very mild spotting. Everyone is different and I know it is all emotional and very frightening, but that’s some of the stuff I would get checked to start with.

I went nearly a year then had one period and now it’s been 4 months and still no sign, so hoping that was the last!

Mine stopped last August having been a little irregular but short. We were on holiday and it was ruined by two weeks of constant fairly heavy bleeding. Then nothing until Christmas Eve ( great timing yet again!!). Weirdly regular until April and nothing since. In the first spell of them stopping I had hot flushes several times a day. No hot flushes this time but chronic joint pain which is causing me real discomfort and distress.

Thank you everyone really appreciate all your feedback and it’s reassuring to know this is quite normal for some. It just seemed a long time as the the most I had gone was 3 months without a period. Peri has been going on for a quite a few years now with all the other usual symptoms. I’m 53 by the way. Then last year I had an ultrasound etc because of irregular bleeding and my womb lining was thickened so had biopsy but that came back fine. Then my periods just stopped for all them months then here we go again. It doesn’t seem like a proper period though but I’ve had plenty of the usual period pain cramps. Probably fluctuation in hormones i guess causing the bleeding. We will all get there eventually. This site is brilliant for the support and advise. Thanks again everyone ?

Thank you everyone. Sorry I did a reply to everyone in the wrong bit further down. Silly peri brain not working again.

Yes, I too had experienced the same thing. Hadn’t had a period since April 2019. Then last month(June 2020) I had some cramping and bleeding. I was surprised to see it! So I phoned the local hospital for medical advice and they are going to help me. I’m gonna go have a ultrasound appointment set up for me soon. Wish me luck!

Yes! I have had exactly the same thing. It’s normal (thank goodness) but always best to get it checked out. I’m 49 and nearly the end of peri menopause. Ive had blood tests for menopause so I know I’m nearly finished. But menopause isn’t diagnosed until you go through a whole 12 months without a period. Good luck. ?

Yep me! I went nine months without a period from August last year to June this year. Prior to this I’d had probably a year to eighteen months of erratic bleeds (in terms of frequency, flow and duration) and afterwards, another two month gap before having the heaviest period I’ve ever had.

Hi Michelle, The same thing happened to me. I went 10mths with nothing then all of a sudden I had a period! After speaking to some of my friends I found out it was pretty common. However since then I have not had a period and that is now just over a year ago! Hope this helps.

I’m 56 and had regular heavy periods until January this year. I then had 4 months without a period so I thought finally they had stopped but then I had a light period for a week then 5 weeks later another light period. All my friends my age have gone through the menopause but my body doesn’t seem to want to give them up.

Five months with nothing. I thought (hoped) it was all over. Nope.

I went 12 months & 2 days! There was me thinking I had entered the menopause & that happened, so having left me totally confused as to where I’m at, I’m just going to try to relax into it & go with the flow (pun intended).

During 2017/2018 I had 8 periods. Shortest gap was 25 days, longest 259. I know someone who went two years and then had one! I’m at 674 days now so feeling pretty confident I’m done but who knows. Definitely you’re at the beginning of the end but don’t throw the sanitary products away just yet!!

Unfortunately, yes. I went 51 weeks without a period and since then I have had a period every three or four months. I really thought I had finished.

Hi Michelle, That exact situation happened to me. I went 7 months without a period, and then out of nowhere, I got it. It only lasted a day or two. But, my heart sank as I too was hoping I was near the finish line. I've restarted my count since then and I’m now at 6 months, I don't know how common it is to get a period after passing the half-year mark but fingers crossed, it won't happen again.

Gosh it seems like this is pretty normal for a lot of people then which is quite reassuring. Thanks again lovelies for all your replies. I really appreciate everything you have all said. We will all be just fine keep smiling x

I was hoping things were slowing down because I was getting my cycle every other month. Then I’ve gotten a period every month for the last 4 months. I’m 56 ladies. I’ve got all of you beat! ??

For the last 3 years I've gone 8 or 9 months without and then they started again in the summer. The first year I had 3 regular periods before they stopped. Last year 2 periods and then they stopped again. This year after nearly 10 months I had a full on period... they seem to coincide with my daughters period which is odd. Whole thing is odd!

I got mine again after 6 months. Lasted two weeks now 4 months and going

For me it was 4 months. And it was flooding, I was using the night time always sanitary towels as they seem to be more absorbent. Even then I was changing every hour or so as it was so heavy. On the plus side it only lasted 4 days instead of the 7 it used to be

I’m 49 & I’ve gone 11 months with no period, recently had blood tests, spoke to gp & he said yes probably in menopause, prescribed hrt tablets (been on them a month & feeling so much better, hardly any night sweats, mood swings a little better) then literally yesterday horrendous leg cramps & this morning period is back!! What the hell!?! Not stopping tablets as don’t want my night sweats back ? just hope it disappears as quick as it arrived!! My mum & sister both went through their menopause at 38 so what happened with me is a mystery! I can see I’m not alone in this weird experience us women have to go through

This has just happened to me. Went 8 months with no period then flood gates opened. Dr referred me to cancer clinic and seen within 2 wks. Scanned and then a biopsy, wait 2 wks and got the all clear but told am perimenapause, lots of fluctuating hormones, come back and have medina coil fitted to see me through the change! Have no idea if coil is the way to go, was trying to get through this naturally. (Apparently our smear tests don’t check all things and DR would want to know if go long time without a bleed, they said better to be safe than sorry). Also showed 10mm thickening lining of womb, further investigations are triggered at 11mm)

I’m 54 and my period has stopped twice, each for 7 month stretches. It has now been 50 days from my last period. I still have all of the glorious symptoms like hot flashes, fatigue, moodiness. I could go on and on (and so could my husband). Still don’t have it and now I have developed colitis. Kinda the same symptoms (cramps and bleeding) just a whole new area! Not sure whether to laugh or cry! All of the sudden, I feel like i’m not only “over the hill”, I am rapidly falling down the hill!

I’m 51 & last year I was having a period every other week and it was brutally heavy for 1-2 days. I had wicked cramps & found out I had fibroids. Had a d&c in January. Then a “regular” period following month. Then 3 months nothing. Then two months with one completely non-functional super heavy bleed day. Now Ive got light cramping & spotting but don’t know if I’m going to get a full on period. I have to pack a box of ultra tampons with me plus panty liners just in case! ?

I am now 53 and last September started "periods" again after 8 years of blessed relief. After 3D scanning, it has been agreed that the are " break-through" bleeding due to HRT (I used a different brand). They are shorter than my "natural flow", regular as clockwork and have given me new experiences with nausea, diarrhoea, constipation, loss of motivation, sensitive to sadness etc so crying easily and a lack of patience with a risk-taking I never expected to discover. I now have an increased respect for pregnant colleagues with similar experiences and those with PMS.

Yes. I wasn’t having menstrual periods, then one day it started all over.

I an 51 and 16 months without a period and today woke up with spotting and some cramping. If course I went down a rabbit hole and starting scaring myself with all the googling. I have my GYN annual next week and hopefully it’s just hormonal. Also my boobs have been sore on the side, but not swollen and no lumps. What the heck - being a woman is hard!

I haven’t had a period in YEARS!! Idk what’s going on with me but I might start birth control to restart my periods .
