Pelvic Pain?

I have been experiencing chronic pelvic pain with low back and hip pain. First it was just with obvious cycle times like menses and ovulation, but now it’s all the time. Has anyone else experienced this and found something to help?

Yeap and from talking to others it’s very normal especially in perimenopause :(

  • Sandra G5 years ago

Yes. Mine was so bad I had to go to the doctor for pain killers because I could hardly get out of bed. I am hoping this won’t be regular because I don’t think I can deal with this pain ?

Well, I am not sure pelvic pain can be due to oestrogen falling off. I would suggest that you need an expert gynae assessment, urgently.

I have been experiencing pelvic and hip pain recently but did not associate it to peri menopause. I suffer with low back pain and muscle pain anyway which I now know can be worsened by the menopause. So this is very interesting.

  • Sloan5 years ago

I agree with Ella; get it checked out just to be sure. I’m experiencing pelvic pain too, but I’m not sure the source of it is related to peri; could be, but we are treating it as its own thing.

Oh crikey! Yes, in recent weeks I’ve been getting pains in my pelvic and hip area. Starts on the right side (so thought it could be a grumbling appendix) but then moves to left side. Also, get lower back pain but guessed that was to do with peri, but not the pelvic pain ?. The list of annoying ailments continues to grow ?

Yes, and after an ultrasound they found fibroids in my cervix. I had an LSH 10 years ago for fibroids, and they left my cervix for faster healing. Fast forward 10 years, brand new fibroids.

Same for me, when I was 41-42 (I’m now 51) the pain was so bad that I felt as though I was about to deliver a baby. I got a scan and ultrasound and I had fibroids we waited a year to see if they would go away but no such luck and they were growing. Finally I had a partial hysterectomy in which they left my ovaries.

Same here, I have an ultrasound scan booked in January

I’m experiencing really bad pain in the pelvic region, almost like an appendix pain (but mine was removed years ago), it’s worse when I need to pee (although not a UTI kind of peeing pain) and also when I’m ovulating. Reading this thread has stopped me worrying as have trawled the internet for what could be wrong.... don’t have any other symptoms that would relate it to a chronic illness. However, seem to have all the signs of peri menopause. ? I am 50, have scoliosis so have lived with back pain most of my life, but peri menopause is making that worse too. Love this.... NOT! Have to say I have been taking Tumeric and Black Pepper supplements along with Menopase and it seems to be taking the sharp edge off of join pains.

Yes. My right hip and right side of lower back sometimes have slight pain.

  • Christi5 years ago

Stretching usually helps. I started taking salmon oil supplements to see if that helps.

Not that I’d wish this pain and discomfort to anyone - but I am so glad to see here that I’m not alone! I’m the same. Horrendous pain in lower back and hips for months and months. Been trying to work out what it is for ages, and been so anxious and worried about it... and it was the main reason for my joining this app. Currently going through exactly this - along with terrible fatigue, feeling warm, aches in arms and elbows etc etc etc. Last time I had back pains this bad, I had a sudden period (after months of not having it) and it seemed to relieve the back pain - so am guessing it is related to it / cycles.. Doc said it could be fibroids / cysts coming back so need to get scan.. But I am also prone to lower back pain too, so it’s even more of a conundrum ? But it’s so debilitating, and quite literally “the biggest pain’ in my life ? The only thing I found that (temporarily) works for me is an Epsom salt bath. I think I will try the turmeric as Badgerlady suggests..

Hi Ang, I think perhaps you may experience similar discomfort to the one I raised in a topic a while back called ‘Back Pain’ by Anne from London. Check out the post, comments and recommendations, maybe they will help you too. (I can’t seem to insert a hyperlink to it, but it’s under the ‘Discuss’ topics)

I am amazed that there are more people out there suffering this too. I was putting it down to being overweight, which doesn’t help anyway (I put everything down to that) but it’s a relief to hear there could be another explanation too. It is so chronic at times that I can’t move. I force myself to walk through the pain though, I think moving helps. I’m 53. My periods last for only 1 day and are very light. The hip area pain is so debilitating around my period I think I will check this with the doc. I have just started taking evening primrose oil capsules to see if that helps.

Yes!!! So grateful to hear I’m not alone! I’m 49 and I developed pelvic pain a few years ago that felt like a dull ache but evolved sometimes into sharp pinches and stabs. Every diagnostic treatment available including ultrasound and CT as well as pelvic exam came up clean. I’ve been terrified and miserable until recently realizing I’m deep in the throes of peri menopause and this is part of it. Discouraged that my docs never even suggested menopause could be the culprit

I’m in the menopause, and am getting bad pelvic pains, Thursday going to have internal scan , have had blood test , but dr hasn’t got back... maybe he/she’s waiting for scan results, When I was going through peri , I was having loads of down below problems - pollops- fybroids- and thickness of lining, had to have op to clear it all away, also had breast cysts and hormonal lumps in breast , My menopause is awful no sleep- abdominal pain- flushes -sweats and mood swings are not good, but Iv been self help Primrose oil/ calms for mood and vitamin d and lots and lots of walking, it’s helping me cope with the mental side of things , also I talk to my self and remind me, it’s a flush / can’t sleep it’s the meno ul get through this and it helps ... I feel low some days very low but just say hey .... you’ll get through this / you’ve been through a lot worse , and just do things to take my mind off it .... self help is hard but it gets easy and does work ???

I think if you have constant pain you should always get it checked out to be on the safe side. I currently have cysts which cause pain, looking at having these removed soon. Double checking for ovarian C.

I see a pelvic floor physical therapist snit has helped so very much!!

Agreed. Definitely worth talking to a pelvic Floor PT.

Same here ladies. I’m now 58 and have been having this on and off for 10 years. Currently in an horrendous flair up. Pelvic pain on the central and right side and back pain. Making be incredibly short tempered. Bloods again tomorrow. Over the years I have had multiple ultrasounds, CT and also transvaginal scans. I’ve also had hysteriscopies and flexi sigmoidoscopy. Nothing ever shows up though. Doctor must think I’m a total hypochondriac but the pain is real ☹️

Reading everyone’s comments has been the most reassuring thing I have found in months. I have only just made the possible link with menopause and have searched for help online and apps. Just before the first lockdown last March I had started to experience horrendous deep left leg pain in my shin, foot and hip which felt like my bones were breaking. I payed privately to have an MRI in the December before as my GP thought it was sciatica as I had previously had a prolapsed disc and a microdiscectomy. It was found I had another prolapsed disc but I had absolutely no back pain just this horrendous leg and hip pain to the point that I was crawling around my house. I was put on the waiting list for surgery but due to lockdowns and COVID have now been waiting over a year with no sign of this happening any time soon. I am taking hefty pain medication but in the last couple of months I have been feeling terrible on top of the pain. Feeling really hot, then freezing cold, nausea, aching absolutely everywhere and so exhausted I have been unable to stand or walk. I have had to go back to bed three or four times a day often sleeping for four or five hours each time. I then struggle to get back up and feel dreadful again. I have been convinced that there is something else wrong with me and have had several blood tests with the GPs but they can find nothing. I have now got to the point that I am breaking down crying every day as I genuinely feel like I am dying. I just have constant debilitating exhaustion and feel sick as soon as I eat as I start to feel hot then cold as soon as I have anything hot or cold to eat. I really am desperate at the moment and don’t know how I am going to get through another day. The worst thing is I just feel like a hypochondriac and nobody cares as nobody wants to see anyone because of COVID. I’m only 50 years old, I haven’t been able to work now for over a year (midwife) I’m having to use a mobility scooter or wheelchair to go any distance and feel helpless. If this is due to menopause does anyone know if HRT would help, I have alway thought I would never consider it as I would manage the symptoms for a few years but if this is what I’m going to be faced with for the next ten years I would rather risk the risks of HRT than have no quality of life which is what I’m faced with at the moment as am now having panic attacks every day trying to work out how I’m going to get through this.

Yes, Gyno found fibroids and a large ovarian cyst with an ultrasound. Pretty common but did an a CAT scan and blood tests. So far it doesn’t look like cancer but she is having me come in months later to make sure it hasn’t gotten bigger.

I get my pain right in between the 2 pubic bones and it’s agony. My physio told me that peri menopause can have more tendon injury rather than muscle just through the drops in hormone levels. I wake up and think which part of me is it going to no today - I can’t wait ? x

I had pelvic pain that radiated to my lower back, hips and thighs. It would be especially bad when I was on my feet for a long time. I could get the pain to subside if I could sit down and curl into a ball. I went to my vein specialist and was diagnosed with abdominal varicose veins. I had a procedure where a glue was injected into them and the pain was almost immediately gone. I had never heard of such a condition.

I feel a little better reading this. My health anxiety is through the roof right now. I started having lower back pain out of no where a week ago. Mostly on the left and almost feels like I would when I get a period. I haven’t had a cycle in 11 months. The doctor gave me muscle relaxers and send me on my way. Now it just seem dull, not as bad but I still can feel it. Of course I’m a nervous wreck that it can be something terrible. I have had so many weird symptoms throughout this journey. I have an appointment in 2 days with my gynecologist and with gp the following day. I am now hopeful this is peri/menopause related.

I had this for years. I’m almost 52 and have been period free since October’16. I have a fibroid in my uterus and am scheduled for a LAVH in about one week. Hopefully this will take care of this. I’ve had numerous X-rays, transvaginal ultrasound, endometrial biopsy and nothing found. Just the fibroid there. It did cause me to spot a few times.

I’m 40 and currently going through perimenapause. I have been suffering with lower back pain (pain that’s right above my buttocks) and pain that radiates to my hip on one side only. The pain started about a year ago.

  • Shannon4 years ago

I'm 45. About a 2-3 years ago I started having lower back and hip pain. I had experienced this during my last pregnancy where the only thing that helped was never standing still. Sitting and relaxing is not really an option for me so when it suddenly came back and was excruciating daily I started rolling my back and hips out with a sock of two tennis balls. Slowly slowly moving them and with each move on my back rotating my arms and reaching to each side, etc to loosen things. Same with butt and hips, but with the legs. I got this idea from my chiropractor sticking her elbow in my hip and making me move my foot slowly up the table and back down over and over. I do that with the balls and do like a butterfly move. It takes a long time to go from neck to hips (don't put the balls on your spine) but after days and weeks the pain started disappearing. It also helps relieve headaches. I know a lot of us don't think or have time to roll our muscles out. Maybe this will help some of y'all too.

Wow I’m so glad I joined this today. I went to the chemist today to ask advice because I’ve been getting terrible pelvic pain and lower back pain only in the nights wakes me up constant, was really worried. But now reading this I feel relieved. I’m 43 on HRT since October.
