I love wearing makeup but my usual go-to products just don’t work for me anymore. My skin has gotten a lot more dry and less bouncy, and no products I own really help. What used to be my favourite foundation can’t stand the test of my sweaty face in the middle of a hot flush. Do you ladies have favourite brands and products that you can recommend? -Jackie, York

I always have a facial mist on hand to cool down and/or feel more moisturized, you should try it!
Jackie6 years ago
Thanks Lisa for the tip! Any particular brand you recommend?

I use a few... Mario badesco rosewater smells lovely and I also like Avene ?

Ive been looking for a good foundation for years! I switched from powder to liquid and at the moment my favourite is the Giorgio Armani luminous silk. Very lightweight
Jackie6 years ago
I definitely need something lightweight, all my products have felt so heavy and sticky on my skin as my hot flashes have become more frequent ? Thanks for the advice!

What about just concealer where you just need it especially if very humid or even dry sensitive skin and spray Yonka spray mist for dry sensitive skin even on a airplane Yonka is a line of creams and sprays for your skin, it’s a great lines no additives just the natural ingredients. Great for eczema skin that is very dry.

I don’t use a foundation I use ponds face lotion! But to clean my face I use 1/2 olive oil and 1/2 coconut oil and I’ve noticed my skin seems to like this combo
Jackie6 years ago
Hi Candice, thanks for the tip! I always buy facewash products but never thought to try oils? Do you suggest any special kind or should I just grab the olive and coconut oil I have in my kitchen? ?
Sloanreplying to Jackie6 years ago
I echo Candice’s recommendation and use what’s in your kitchen! ? I’ve tried coconut and olive & my skin prefers olive; try them both and see. Apply oil to dry face and massage well. To rinse, I run a cloth under medium-hot water and then hold that to my face to pull the oil/dirt off (choose a couple of washcloths that you use just for this ?). I moisturize with straight jojoba oil (day) and a natural cream when I need something heavier. My skin loves it.

So hope this helps, my daughter is a makeup artist, she said illamasqua is fantastic BUT said the ordinary is equally as good and a fifth of the price.... but she says to invest in a good powder to finish and said illamasqua or charolette tilbury .... to finish off she recommends mario badescu rose face spray to mist on top of makeup .... hope this helps
Jackie6 years ago
Thank you Mandy! Lucky that you have a daughter who's an expert in makeup. I have tried the Ordinary products before (salicylic acid) and liked it, I do love how affordable they are so am very willing to give their foundation a try. I appreciate all the advice, please thank your daughter for me too!

For me, skincare changes helped more than makeup. Once my skin was fixed, the makeup looked better.
Jackie6 years ago
Hi Wendy, I'm equally as lost at skincare as I am at makeup right now! What skincare changes have helped your makeup look better?
Jules6 years ago
True once you get the right moisture cream or serum but I do love Yonka sensitive spray and their cream because no fragrance unless natural smell from the ingredients. I do take Clinique moisture surge spray on airplanes because my skin really dries out it a smaller bottle of Yonka spray for dry/sensitive skin

I use Yonka too. Spritz it when I want a little moisture but not greasy.

I absolutely love LimeLife by Alcone! They have a variety of skincare and makeup products that appease everyone’s skin type! I love the First Base Primer Spray with a Perfect Foundation and 16 hour setting! This gets me through my pre-menopausal hot flashes and the hot NC sun!!

Hi thank you for sharing! I haven't heard of this brand before and hope it's available in the UK as it sounds great. I'll check!

My face has gotten desert dry. I started using vitamin E oil under my primer and foundation. It seems to be balancing my skin out and the foundation isn’t caking in dry patches anymore.
Jackie6 years ago
Thanks for the great tip! Please share if there's any particular brand of vitamin E oil I should try first ?

I’m the opposite, greasy skin and open pores or blocked pores. I look shiny and fed up with it.
Jackie6 years ago
?Have you tried setting powders to combat the shiny-ness? That's the only tip I can think of myself, but hopefully others here also have some advice for you!

Rodial vitamin c line is great. Especially their vitamin c cleansing pads. Rodial discount code is LIVE25 for 25% off. Think they have their pads in their cleanser sale at the moment so may be more off x

Invest in a quality med spa for photo facials! Get a deep cleansing facial first. The IPL/ photo facial will help shrink your pores and the heat will help tame the oiliness. Plus it stimulates collagen and elastin! Removes sun damage, eliminates broken capillaries and more. Just don’t buy from any “turn and burn” spas! It’s a wonderful treatment and the price should reflect that. They are often times sold in packages of 3-5. I get 1 as month.

Being a Vegetarian, I cannot wear just any brand because it has to be Vegan standard so I currently use Lavera foundation/powder combination with a light primer underneath. This works well but for those “tropical heatwave” moments, I use powder blotting papers/tissues. They work very well for that on-the-spot make-up fix. Hope this helps.
Jackie6 years ago
Thanks Erica! Love the tip about blotting papers, I need to stock up....

What’s is best for dry/sensitive skin? No more Ester Lauder or Clinique? fragrance in cream can bother sensitive skin and changed skin from when your 30 to 56 even

Hi Jackie. I had this same issue and completely changed my skincare and make up favorites. Currently using mostly rodial and by Terry. Rodial skin tint is great. Nice coverage but so light. I love their dragons blood essence mist too. Smells amazing and I keep one upstairs and one downstairs. Great for flushes or just to refresh skin over makeup or after cleansing and before moisturizer. By Terry primer is amazing as it’s plumping but helps with shine and not making the face appear dull either. Moisturizer I’m liking murad at the moment. Hydro quenching one. Light but u can feel it on ur skin without being sticky. Hope they help x
Sue6 years ago
Ps if you order any rodial they always have discount codes on their site or Instagram. LIVE25 will give u 25% off and free shipping. By Terry give u a discount code if u sign up to newsletter. Or try lorna20 should do 20% off she’s someone on Instagram who always gives codes out x

I have Been using the ordinary range for my skincare which I love and at such an affordable price but I have recently changed to Trinny London Make up which is great. Nothing too heavy, everything is a cream base. The pots may seem small but they go a long way.

I’ve had good luck with lancome Genifique and I’ve been using Estée Lauder matte perfecting primer helps cut down on hot flash shine breakthrough

I’ve started using Bio-oil at night time before I go to bed. It seems to have improved the texture of my skin and I use very little moisturiser during the daytime. I also have been using NYX tinted skin veil. It can be used on its own or underneath foundation but I prefer to use it on its own. It’s very light gives a more natural look without caking on or clogging up pores and it’s not the end of the world if I feel hot and have to wipe my face. Cooling clay face masks are great too. Put in the fridge before use. Or try those paper ones which are cooling with cut out slots for the eyes and mouth.

I’ve been using The Ordinary and Skinceuticals for skin care, and Charlotte Tillbury for make-up - had to completely switch up both in last 4 years, as skin changed from plump and combination to dry, uneven and prone to redness / rosacea! Seems to be working so far, hope that helps!... ??

Hi I was the same my face was so dry , my beautician friend told me to stop using cleansing wipe and switch to a good face cleanser and tone then moisturiser. Iv tried a few now and quite like DR Organic from Holland and Barrett’s . It’s not to pricy but good quality. Iv also switched to a BB cream foundation rather than a heavy one . Lorial do a nice one that changes colour to match your skin I think it’s trial and error to find what suits x

Hi Jackie, I totally relate! I started using the Becca primer with channel CC with SPF 50. If the Kate Sommerville CC cream ever starts production again that would be my very favorite makeup EVER! And I was a flagship Nordstrom makeup artist for 5 years! So I’ve tried them all! Hope that helps☺️

I started oil cleansing a few years ago and it made a world of difference in my overall skin. Reduced wrinkles and undereye circles. But I also have noticed I need to really feed my body with skin healthy foods to keep it looking younger - avocados have become my best friend.

I have switched recently to Paula’s Choice. I was able to send a message via their site saying my skin was menopausal. We had a brief chat and they gave me a list of recommendations. I bought the trial sachets and seen a brilliant difference in a short while. My skin looks fresh and bright. Now I need to do something about my hair ?

I have had to up my washing, moisturizer routine. For me, my parent’s genes are definitely a help. I started looking after my skin at 35, and I am 49 now. I use two cleansers, (no toner) a retinol night oil, serum and nightly moisturizer, along with a vitamin C serum to keep my complexion even, while the retinol does lesson lines snd wrinkles. I also use another sleeping moisturizer mask (cream) right before bed, and now my husband snd I sleep on silk pillow cases. My morning routine involves a quick wipe with a microfibre face cloth, and a high spf daily moisturizer. I use IT BB cream, and mascara snd a lipstick,

Does anyone have hyper pigmentation on the face or anywhere else for that matter? This was my introduction to peri menopause, big brown spots all over my face. I’ve tried ALL the products, the vitamin C, I even had my face lasered which made the spots worse. It’s called Mellasma. If anyone has had any success with lightening, please share!

Back in 10/2016 when I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer besides genetics the other cause was environmental factors. The chemicals in My makeup & Skin Care Products, Hair Care Products and even some cleaning products. . I went all Wellness Products. I use a company Called Melaleuca. There are several companies out there that are also good. I haven’t had any serious skin issues. Atleast not yet.
