Hair removal

I’m 48 and have been in peri for about three years now. I think one of the worst changes I’ve noticed has been the sprouting of new, and thicker, hair on places like my chin. Tweezers have become my best friend. Wondering if others are dealing with the same and if you’ve found better solutions you can recommend?– Bethany, Albuquerque

    Ugh. Yes. It drives me crazy. I have a 10x magnifying mirror and good tweezers. Sure wish my husband would give my chin a once-over before we go out of the house though. ???‍♀️

    Yes I’ve noticed the same thing and no I haven’t found any better way to be rid of them than a good set of tweezers.

    If that’s your worst. I wish I was you! Symptoms can be sooo bad. Hair growth on your chin is nothing. This can happen without the menopause!

    I have electrolysis regularly. Otherwise they keep coming back.

    I am in this boat as well! It can be annoying but other symptoms are far worse for me.

    Oh good grief! Yes! It's awful. Hairs seem to be MUCH thicker, very dark or very white. You think you've got them all and then the light hits you at a certain angle and there they are! Where the hell are they coming from? You go to bed having plucked what you thought were all of them, and by morning, there are more! I feel they're laughing at me ? They're SO strong as well! I was hoping if I went to a beauty salon waxing would help. I'd be interested to know if waxing does help with the really stubborn thick one's, as it's taking me ages to pluck them all.

      Waxing is bad for face skin - it would irritate and peel it. Tweezers are not efficient - you’ll strengthen the roots because you can’t apply enough power so, the hair will grow stronger. But the epilator PHILIPS SATINELLE in 15 seconds will leave you with baby face with lasting effects and eventually with thinning hairs. I’ve been using it for years, read my earlier post

      Oh thanks for that, I'll have to give it a go....but don't epilators hurt like hell?? I suppose I'll have to choose between looking like Father Christmas all year round or withstand short term pain ? I did try home waxing but as you say my skin was a little irritated and did peel a bit, but I thought that was just my sensitive skin. I have very pale skin and quite dark hair....of course, so the dark hairs stick out like a sore thumb and the white ones shine like little lights ? A PHILLIPS SATINELLE it is then ?

    What bugs me most about them is after I pluck, the worst of them reliably become angry ingrown hairs on their inevitable return trip. Also, why are my eyelashes not this damn persistent??

    Tried, Tested, Approved and Recommended - Laser hair removal (before they turn grey as it won’t be effective thereafter)

      Definitely right re: not as effective on gray hairs! I did laser on my upper lip, chin and neck about 6 years ago (before peri symptoms started) and my esthetician told me more than once that laser is not as effective on hormonally-induced hair growth ... has yours said anything about that?

      Not had anyone advise me as such, touch wood I had a couple appear all of a sudden and so glad I had them removed after tweezering initially... I also could not stop touching them at one point very thick as others are mentioning. Only required about 3 sessions to banish them too.

      That’s great! ???? I may need to look into a new solution (or a new esthetician ?) for mine.

    Hi Bethany, I’ve been in the same boat for years. Likely there is an amazing solution for us! I’ve been using epilator PHILIPS SATINELLE for years and it changed my life in an instant when I found it. It works as magic and the results lasts 2 - 3 weeks, then you’ll have to reapply it. The epilator is electrical and is very fast and efficient! It’s sold in Boots and it’s the best. Try it, you’ll be stress free. That’s how I feel since using it. Remember afterwards do not wet the the the chin and always apply baby powder - it will prevent infection. Good luck!

    Hi yes it’s the decline in oestrogen that causes this, electrolysis is the best option - regular appointments will eventually stop them returning. Find a beautician who has a new machine they’re so good

    OMG, I have the same problem! There is this one spot along my jaw where one whisker, I can’t even call it a hair, has started growing! It’s hard to see in the mirror, and I pluck it as soon as I feel it coming in. Ug.

    Yes. I have had laser treatment for my bikini line and underarms and loved it. I use an epilator on my chin and legs. It does help. I also always have. Tweezer with me!

    All these hairs can actually be quite soul destroying and makes me so self-conscious. I’m currently using hair removal creams which are not always recommended for the face but I haven’t quite taken myself to electrolysis yet. This might be something that I do because it influences my style of hair as well.

    I have had a hormonal facial hair issue for years, tried everything mentioned, the only thing that slows it down is a cream called Vaniqa Eflornithine which I can get on prescription but my Mum has to pay for hers, about £60 but worth every penny, the tube lasts 6 months and you need a tiny amount. Good luck ladies

    I’ve had a few unwanted facial, neck and chest hairs popping up every now and again over the last 10 years or so. The most efficient way to remove them for me, is electrolysis. It’s quick and really cheap compared to laser treatment, and is great for sporadic hairs. For some people it can take a few sessions to kill the hair root, but I’m very lucky in that it almost always works first time for me. I don’t find it too painful, and the technician can tune the power down if it’s too painful or your skin is very sensitive. The best thing is that electrolysis is a permanent removal once the root has been killed. Recommended.

    I have a soft hair covering and then just use tweezers for the harder hairs as they pop up, I think at some point I may have a gorgeous moustache

    Just a thought I bought a Nono! Thinking that would help but it didn’t work for me. My mum uses a cream but that doesn’t work either on my super strong hair

    I use an epilator and no, it doesn’t hurt on the chin ?

    Yes I feel your pain. Have you tried dermaplaning? You can get it done at a salon or they now sell tools that you can use yourself. I highly recommend it use mine every two weeks keeps the chin under control and added benefit of getting rid of the peachy fuzz on the face so my countless anti-aging creams can sink in better. My eyesight is getting too bad to go the tweezer route anymore?
