So far my 3 year menopause journey has been miserable in many ways. But I wanted to share some silver linings for those just embarking. The main one being a newfound sense of freedom in this phase of my life. Kids are old enough to take care of themselves and I’m finally squeezing in some me time. I’m also learning to not sweat the small stuff -- that includes not letting people get to me like they used to. In general, I’m learning to be selfish for once. In a good way. I just wanted to say that times can be tough, but always remember to look for the the silver linings. Lots of love ?

I enjoy my child being old enough to do a lot on her own, which frees up time for myself; areas that I’ve neglected in the past.

Dig out the one or two really good friends in your life and ask them to go on this journey with you. Weekly IHOP breakfasts where you give yourself permission to moan about anything and everything. Time carved out of your day where you go and sit in the spare room - do nothing if you like. I discovered facials when I was about forty five. ( one for post COVID19!) Try and go to one group catering for an interest - it took all my bravery and I had to let myself back out of the ones that didn’t work but I found stuff I enjoyed doing and people I liked. During COVID19, my online writers group has been invaluable. I have also explored The online world of Second Life and was pleasantly surprised by how my stereotypical assumptions were so wrong. It takes time. Don’t beat yourself up. Give yourself space. Treat yourself as you would a friend. I’ll shut up now...

Excellent comment! Things I like: Not caring what other people think of me nearly so much Enjoying the freedom to slob around in my Supernatural T-shirt Enjoying the odd occasion when I make an effort and people look surprised at how well I scrub up! Having a few really good friends Dropping the toxic stuff without worrying about it. Getting selfish takes a bit of effort - totally worth it.

I thought I’d be raising kids forever but my youngest and last son moved out this past February. It felt good and scary. I never lived alone. Three sons 35, 29 and 26, oh my, my house was so quiet who do I yell at for not taking out the garbage, ME! Although I am flashing, mood swings and uugghh the other stuff, I LOVE MY LIFE!!! Life gets better than a dream.

Feel the same way!!! Being on lockdown has made me more focused on myself and improving my well being by taking time for myself. I have always only had a few close friends and during this time in my life they are so supportive ❤️ I care less about what people think of me and am not interested in their negativity. Am feeling positive about the future as I’m more comfortable and confident in myself that I wasn’t in my 20s and 30s.

I am loving this time of life for the wisdom I’ve gained and the time I have for myself now that the kids don’t need me as much. I just need to really figure out the physical side of it all. Doctor doesn’t get it.
