The lighter side

I thought having a light-hearted laugh at ourselves might help!

I took my 19yo out while she was learning to drive (she passed first time too, must have been her awesome mummy teacher!). We needed to wipe the inside of the windscreen as her car leaked a lot when it rained, but could not for the life of me remember what the word was for clearing the windscreen so I told her it needs “de-wetting”...erm mum, you mean drying?! Oh yeah, drying ? Not lived it down yet... When forgetting words now I just make something up to fit the gap!

What are some funny moments you’ve had?

I’ve been having the same problem. I used to talk really fast and my mind was always moving. I feel like my mind has slowed down and I feel so much older than 56. I have to put so many reminders in my phone and set so many alarms. I’m afraid to forget important things because I’m an Administrative Assistant for about 60 people. I’m looking for ways to keep my brain active, but other than work and reading, not having much luck. I should also mention that I’m head of IT for my church, so that keeps me pretty busy as well.

Luckily, my family knows that I can’t remember words at all at the moment and they fill in the gaps and find it hilarious! We’ve had some very funny moments with my 7 and 10 year m old shouting out random words to workout what I mean!

I get very embarrassed by moments when words fail me, but I have stopped beating myself up over it. As my partner is a stroke survivor, we have created funny word games similar to the exercises that got him through his initial aphasia. Category, description, function? Or if those word finding aids fail, any silly word association (in any language) that keep the conversation going. It’s hard to feel embarrassed while laughing about our newest word concoctions.

Glad to know it’s not only me forgetting words! ? I am bilingual English and Spanish, use English full day at work and Spanish with friends and family , I find myself now thinking of words often or speaking Spanglish ?
