I was just at the Apple Store and they were taking people’s temperatures before letting anyone in due to COVID-19. So there’s me with hot sweat and someone’s waving a thermometer in my face to see if I have a temperature! I had to explain I was having a hot flush to the young male shop assistant. Anyone else experienced this? I’ve also found travelling on buses or public transport while wearing a face mask to be a killer, guaranteed to have me sweating like a pig. I’d love to know how people have been coping with the COVID-19 safety measures while managing symptoms. Please share your experience and any helpful tips!

Feeling your pain!! I hate wearing masks on the buses as I sweat so bad!!! As yet I haven’t had my temperature checked before entering a store but I’m dreading it. and I have avoided using any company that does because I don’t want to have to explain myself. Im waiting to hear what PPE I’ll be expected to use in work as I work in a retail shop.....am hoping it’s not a mask!

Not happened yet but totally sure this will happen to me at some point! Just cos I’m stressed about it will mean it happens for sure. Not easy to explain when I’m 41 and have experienced menopause early!!! Hoping they will believe me.

On a light note, I find that if I am in the supermarket ( not been anywhere else) if i have a hot flush, a little cough will send people moving away so you can browse more!!

Hi. I think that whilst we feel like we’re on fire our core body temperature doesn’t rise, although our skin temp might. I just double checked this with a quick google. However I’m not medically trained so can’t say for sure but we should still be within normal temp rates for entry into stores. ?

I was at the hospital yesterday getting an internal ultrasound, I ended up having a hot flush and a panic attack at the same time, definitely made worse by the mask I was wearing, I felt like I couldn’t catch my breath, the radiographer was so kind and understanding, I was mortified.

Sounds awful, I bet there are medical staff who have the same problems.

We have nurses in my work place who take all people’s temperatures as they enter the building. My temperature was normal one day when I entered. But a couple of hours later I went outside for a mile and a half walk and even though it was cool out, I was covered in sweat! The nurse took my temperature again upon re-entering the building and my temperature was lower than it was when I first came in the building! I asked the nurse how was that possible? She said it was sweat’s job to actually cool down the body (even though I didn’t *feel* cool) and that would make my temperature register lower than what it had been earlier when I first came in.

The irony of it is that the person who was all cool and collected in front of you could be an asymptomatic carrier because you can be contagious with no symptoms for 14 days.

On a lighter note , I was in a queue at boots about 15 people in the line, when I had flush. Dropped my shopping, started to take of my cardigan, my husband fanning me. I was hanging onto him as I felt so faint. We started to laugh cos we soon realised after the worse was over that everyone else had fled the queue and we were first in line!!!!

Haha will have to try that

Yes! It happened to me in a milkshake shop of all places! I’d been queuing in the actual shop for at least 15 mins before having the thermometer waved at me. I was hot, flustered, anxious and distinctly uncomfortable and flatly refused and got lectured at by an irate member of staff. I walked out. I found it an Aggressive invasion of my personal space. Being asked to put a mask on would have been sufficient.

I work for the NHS, and we have to wear PPE at work. Yes you feel hot but it’s rare that your body temp raises. As for face coverings, control your breathing and keep your neck clear it helps me XX

Mmh, difficult when you live in a hot climate (36 degrees in the shade at the moment) and masks are compulsory. So despite wearing shorts and vest tops and sporting a mask I sweat like mad and can’t breathe properly.

I’ve taken my temperature during my worst hot flashes which leave me soaked and it always registers as normal which I find bizarre.

What type of store is taking temps when you enter to shop? My local eye doctor is doing that but I haven't heard of stores doing it. I work in retail and wear a mask when customers are in. It gets miserable after a while and I feel like I'm slowly roasting.

It was the Apple store in my town centre, they were the only shop doing that as far as I know.

Every time I go out as in to the post office, to the veg market once a week, bank etc I wear the mask and as “S Hall” mentioned I immediately start sweating like there’s no tomorrow. People look at me as if I’m an alien, so when they do I just say “it’s the menopause, okay?!!!”? I’ve got an array of different masks, because I thought one of them must work a bit better, but they’re all the same, can’t breathe properly, feel closed in and the sweat is running into my eyes.? If any shop owner would measure my temperature (they don’t in our small town) I’d be shipped off to hospital at least 3 times a week just because of my menopausal symptoms and NOT Covid-19.???

I find that my temperature doesn’t change even though I’m convinced I must be radiating heat! I live in a country where we have to wear masks, have an app on our phones and have temps taken every time we enter a mall. I hate wearing the mask so I plan my shopping so as to be as quick as possible. I have never been over the temperature allowed so I just hope that my discomfort is not as obvious as I fear. The main impact of COVID19 for me has been the constant presence of my family, nowhere to hide! I really loved my alone time during the day and it has been really hard to say goodbye to that.

I was in the middle of a flash and got my temperature taken before entering a store, it was slight high and they asked me to wait aside. As the flash passed I was let it. I tried to explain but they still wouldn’t let me in. Not to mention it was over 100 degrees outside. The temp reading was 99 and normal of course 98.6.

Personally I’m not shopping or mixing with anyone unless absolutely necessary (food shopping). I plan my list, wear my mask which helps me feel less anxious as many people don’t abide by the socially distancing rules. Sometimes I get very hot flushes, more often I get palpitations first. I don’t fear having my temperature taken (which I have done weekly when I have acupuncture or chiropractor treatment) as I know hot flushes don’t affect core temperature. I do however fear Covid 19. I understand the need to get the economy up & running again but at what cost? Serious illness or death to ourselves or our loved ones or just innocent people we pass in the shops, all because we fancy ‘browsing’ during the most serious pandemic of our time? Personally I find it all maddening which increases my hot flushes & probably decreases my mental health ? Internet shopping is a much more palatable choice in the current climate for me personally, but I totally respect other people’s personal choices, so long as they’re sensible & safe for all. ?

I am a massage therapist and I have to wear a face mask. I usually have five hours of massaging a day. It is very difficult however I do rub few drops of peppermint Essential oil on the back of my neck and it does give a cooling effect. Basil is also another one you could use, or clarity sage.

Thanks for the tip Bridget definitely worth trying ! ?

The nightmare l have had as a carer when you have a plastic apron which makes you have hot flushes and a full mask. Having to give someone a shower!! I have looked like l have been in the shower as the sweat is like a tap and is pouring on my face and body, so bad!! It's a nightmare.
