Hi Caria Community! We’ve heard lots of great feedback about our Reviews feature where community members share personal reviews of HRT and supplements. Many of you also told us that you’d like to see information and reviews about alternative treatments. So today we’re launching a new section of the Caria homepage called Alternative Therapies where you can learn about the research on different alternative treatments and read reviews from others in the community.
Treatments include acupuncture, CBD, mindfulness, exercise, cognitive behavioral therapy, hypnotherapy, and yoga. If you’ve tried any of these approaches to manage your symptoms, please share your experience with others by voting in the treatment polls and leaving a comment! You can find the new feature on the Caria homepage under challenges.
Are there other therapies, medications, or products you’d like to see featured on Caria? Comment below ?

I’m so pleased you started this column and I’m looking forward to reading what others are doing. For me, the support I get from acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been invaluable all through peri and now menopause. Unfortunately, I have been going through this for 8 years, and have had to manage every symptom in the book. I swear by a combination of treatments, but acupuncture is my first go-to. It has helped my joint pain, mood swings and overall anxiety, digestion, sleep and more. My acupuncturist is a true healer, and a wise woman who has already been through the changes, so she gets it. Also she’s very skilled with herbal remedies. I have other health issues so I have to be careful about supplements. I usually run them by my primary care physician as well. Also, Dr. Christiane Northup’s book “The Wisdom of Menopause” is a must in every woman’s personal health library. I’m using her recommendations about diet and natural HRT (phytoestrogens/plant-based estrogens) and local estrogen suppositories for vag atrophy (estriol NOT estradiol. Estriol is the less powerful form of estrogen and has fewer side effects for me). It’s helping so much! I have IBS and found I actually can eat some soy products like firm tofu, tempeh and miso (because they are cultured) so I get the benefits of the plant-based estrogens without the intestinal upset. Also I found that fresh ground organic Golden flaxseed on my morning oats has helped a lot, and adds more plant-based nutrition. Together with the soy, my endless hot flashes and night sweats are almost gone, and overall most of my other symptoms have greatly decreased. I wish everyone out there who is struggling with these changes the very best healing and balance. It took about a year of trying one thing at a time to find the best combination for my body. This was the best advice I was given by both my acupuncturist and my primary doctor, to try one thing for at least a couple of weeks and move on if it didn’t work. Dr. Northrup’s book is an excellent guide during this “discovery” process. Plus, this is a hell of a ride especially during Covid! Sending strength to you all! It’s not easy! ?✨?

I’ve been using Chaste Tree extract daily and also take Indolplex with DIM, both seem to help!

I’m a firm believer in Black Cohosh. It is my miracle herb for the hot flushes. You have to play around with the dose to best suit you. I take 2 x 6.5mg every morning. I also take Maca Root for the libido effect. Works a treat. I just need to find something for my hot feet. Any suggestions?

I have found that reflexology works wonders and help ease many symptoms. But mainly it is great for rebalancing the hormones as you can work all the main glands (especially pituitary and the ovaries). It really is beneficial and a hidden treatment gem. Give it a go ?
